Bach's chorales are four-part Lutheran hymns that were part of mostly larger works such as cantatas, motets, Passions, and oratorios. There are 420 of them in total based on the latest publication by Luke Dahn from LuxSitPress in 2017.! Justin Chiang has miraculously arranged an additional 20 of these Chorales for traditional brass trio (Trumpet in B-flat, Horn, and Trombone) in Volume II. They sound great and can be used for a variety of purposes including warming up the group at the beginning of a rehearsal, a recital, funeral, religious service, etc. Each chorale is identified with a BWV number, title in German and English translation. You cannot be without these gorgeous pieces.

Luigi Bottazzo (1845-1924) was an Italian composer and conductor who was born in the town of Marostica, near Vicenza. He studied music at the Conservatory of Venice, where he excelled in both composition and performance.

Bottazzo’s music is characterized by its romanticism and lyricism, and he is particularly known for his operas and choral works. His most famous opera is “Francesca da Rimini,� which was based on the famous tragic love story of Paolo and Francesca from Dante’s “Inferno.�

In addition to his work as a composer, Bottazzo was also a respected conductor, and he served as the musical director of several Italian opera houses, including La Scala in Milan and the Teatro Regio in Turin.

Bottazzo’s music was highly regarded in his lifetime, and he received many honors and awards for his contributions to Italian music. Today, his music is less well-known outside of Italy, but his operas and choral works continue to be performed and recorded by musicians and ensembles throughout the country.

Georg Friedrich Händel (1685 –1759) was a German-born Baroque composer becoming well known for his operas, oratorios, anthems, concerti grossi and organ concertos. Handel received his training in Halle and worked as a composer in Hamburg and Italy before settling in London in 1712, where he spent the bulk of his career and became a naturalised British subject in 1727. He was strongly influenced both by the middle-German polyphonic choral tradition and by composers of the Italian Baroque.
