Fun arrangement of Wrecking Ball for Horn in F, Trumpet in Bb, and Trombone.  Written originally for a celebration and demolition of a home in West Philadelphia.  Melody part mostly features Trumpet player, but gives Horn in F melody at midpoint, and Trombone part carries the intro and outro.   Gives optional high/low notes for horn player at the high point of the arrangement though.  At suggested tempo duration is 2 minutes and 3 seconds.

H.P. Takes Five is a cheeky take on Henry Purcell's famous trumpet tune. Instead of 4/4 time, it's in 5/4, with a few 7/4 measures thrown in for a bit more fun! Purcell (1659–95) wrote much incidental music for plays and so-called semi-operas performed in London's theaters, and often included a trumpet tune as a signal for the next act. A trumpet was the only instrument that could be heard above the noise of the audience!

For this Christmas here is a dramatic Fantasia for Instrumental Quartet based on the old English carol God Rest You Merry Gentlemen. It is an eclectic fusion of Classical music and 1950's Free Jazz and West Indian/Caribbean rhythms with exuberance and pulse. It is in verse-refrain form, but is very freely treated and each of the four verses is wholly unique. Every single note is written to express, and sometimes expand upon, the word of the text at that point in time. There is an irregular meter which changes every few bars using 2/4, 3/4, 4/4, 5/4, 6/4, and 7/4 but always maintaining a strong pulse. It contains abrupt changes in dynamics and a rubato tempo with many markings of articulation. This is a challenging work with dynamic results.

In the Cathedral Archives invokes the hushed majesty of the cathedral, the mystery of the archives, and the excitement of the discovery there. The tempo, style, and dynamics change in every section, but similar patterns and chord progressions tie them together. The individual lines are super easy, but when all put together with the markings and variation it sounds quite exciting and special. A great piece for working on controlled playing and interpretation. A lovely addition to any recital.

A short Instrumental Trio which is a chord progression piece like those written by Chopin and Schumann, but here brought into the 21st century with hints of New Age and Jazz. It is homophonic (the parts all move together.) Throughout it is easy crotchets (quarter notes). There are several dynamic markings to observe. There are some accidentals, mostly in the lowest 3rd part which often moves chromatically. This makes the the chord progression sometimes unpredictable and non-traditional so students must listen to tune well.

Psalm 22 is a well-known and loved choral work by Felix Mendelssohn. I have here arranged it for Instrumental Octet. Since it no longer has lyrics to convey the meaning I have added extra markings and altered some harmonies and rhythms to add the appropriate interest and emotion. Several parts now contain short unmetered solos to be done freely in recitative fashion. The individual parts are not difficult with just basic notes and rhythms; the beauty is in the way they fit together creating harmony and polyphony. With a 6 minute performance time, this is a major work which bridges the Classical and Romantic eras.

I have taken selected themes from Zygmunt Noskowski's piano Scherzo and created an Instrumental Quartet in three sections, with each section being a bit louder and fuller, yet always still petit or light (sempre leggiero).  
I have named it Petit Allegretto, both as a stylistic classical music descriptor, and also as a play on the ballet term since I have written it with many characteristics of that form.  
It is in 3/4 with 2 bar phrases. Each section is 8 bars, repeated.

Alexandre Guilmant (1837-1911) was a Parisian organist, performer, and composer. This Marche was originally written for organ in his pedagogical books. I have arranged it for Instrumental Quartet in typical Romantic Symphonic style and I have filled it with expressive markings to bring out the incredible drama of this piece. There is a Trio style section in the sub-dominant key which I treat as an instrumental duet. The piece is Advanced Intermediate realizing that it pushes many of the instruments to both extremes of their ranges. It is furthering challenging due to the plethora of romantic accidentals including double sharps and double flats and constant dynamic changes. This piece amply rewards you in the end with a very impressive and dramatic repertoire performance piece.

Can't Help Falling In Love was made famous by Elvis Presley on his album and film Blue Hawaii. My arrangement takes it from a 60's pop song to a gentle jazz ballad. It is totally reharmonized and has a fresh new feel. The melody is the same, except it has a new Time Signature. The song was originally in 6/8 but I have set it in 1/2 in order to get the pulse and phrasing I want. (Yes, 1 minim/half note per bar.) The original accompaniment was broken arpeggios, but now it is all about the rich new blocked chords. With repeats and a D.S. I have covered all 4 verses and bridges. Enjoy a fresh take on this forever classic. Great for weddings and nostalgic concerts.
