Love Is Here to Stay was the last musical composition George Gershwin completed before his death on July 11, 1937. Ira Gershwin wrote the lyrics after George's death as a tribute to his brother. Although George had not written a verse for the song, he did have an idea for it that both Ira and pianist Oscar Levant had heard before his death. When a verse was needed, Ira and Levant recalled what George had in mind. Composer Vernon Duke reconstructed the music for the verse at the beginning of the song.

This is a nice setting of the seldom heard verse and chorus of this beautiful tune.

In order to make this arrangement really swing, the players must pay careful attention to the jazz articulations and the tuba should maintain a walking bass feel throughout the chart. There is room for improvisation but a suggested solo is included.

A Foggy Day is an American Standard Tune composed by George Gershwin, with lyrics by Ira Gershwin. The song was introduced by Fred Astaire in the 1937 film A Damsel in Distress. It was originally titled A Foggy Day (In London Town) in reference to the pollution-induced pea soup fogs that were common in London during that period, and is often still referred to by the full title. The commercial recording by Astaire for Brunswick was very popular in 1937.

This was probably one of George Gershwin's best compositions (his wife, Ira, has also been co-credited for its existence) and is an aria from the 1935 opera 'Porgy and Bess'. Three Preludes by George Gershwin, originally published for the Piano in 1926, have been beautifully arranged for brass quintet by Robert Coulter. About 6 minutes in length, the Preludes are jazzy, bluesy and a lot of fun to play, plus, very entertaining for audiences. This arrangement is appropriate for advanced performers and is scored for 2 trumpets in b-flat, horn, trombone and tuba. Prelude No. 1 has a bluesy motif with a strong jazz feel. Prelude No. 2, Blue Melody, is a melancholy song with a blues feel using lots of sevenths and a major/minor duality. Its middle section is more upbeat featuring the tuba. Prelude No. 3, Spanish Prelude features lots of syncopations and a battle between major & minor with the major winning out in the end. This work will make a fantastic addition to your concert.
