Giovanni Gabrieli's music was some of the most influential music of the Renaissance, and it continues to be played widely today. Quand'io ero giovinetto was originally written as a choral piece, but this arrangement was written for brass quintet, echoing the style of Gabrieli's famous canzoni per sonare.

Gabrieli's Sacrae Symphoniae was a collection of 45 motets from 1597 written for various ensembles of instruments and choirs. Beata es Virgo Maria is the third motet in the collection. Gabrieli was well-known for his instrumental music, so this piece originally written for a choir has been rearranged for brass sextet.

First published in 1565, this work is often referred to as either the Mass in F or the Missa Brevis. This version is missing the Credo so it's definitey the short one! I have arranged this for Brass quintet, with the bass and tenor parts occasionally being tacet. The original is only for 4 voices, so it took a little bit of real arranging to get it to work properly on quintet. Perfectly usable in a liturgical setting and equally at home on the concert stage. This is brand new and fresh. Andrea Gabrieli was, of course, the uncle of Giovanni Gabrieli and between them they made a huge change to the way music was viewed in the liturgy as well as at festivals and celebrations.

Canzon in Echo Duodecimi Toni á 10 was published as part of Gabrieli's Sacre Symphoniae of 1597, a collection of pieces including motets, canzonas, and sonatas for various instrumental groups. Gabrieli used the layout of his musical home, the San Marco Church in Venice with its two choir lofts facing each other, to create the first spatial or antiphonal music for early brass instruments, cornetti, and sackbuts.

Maestro Fabrizio Bugani has done a wonderful job of editing this almost 4-minute work for a double brass choir of 10 instruments (two brass quintets). Included are numerous substitute parts which include Trumpets in C, Horns, and Alto Trombones. If one wishes a pure cylindrical choir; that can be achieved by using the Alto Trombones in place of the conical Horns.

This edition is appropriate for moderately advanced performers and is pitched in the key of B-flat, down a step from the original.

Instrumentation is for double brass quintets of 4 B-flat Trumpets, 2 Horns and 4 Trombones.
