The overall sequence of this brass quintet models a typical college party in eagle country, where our grit and love for a good time make us like pirates of the Inland PNW, with wheatfields for seas and grain silos for sails. Fittingly, I chose a 12/8 time signature for the first half, as this feels more lilting and perky. As much fun as this stage is, the piece begins to slowly correct itself at the French Horn solo, when things snap into 4/4 time and start feeling a little murkier and eventually more clear-headed. In the end, the ensemble regains the momentum they need to finish on a high note (and turn in that exam the next morning). The PDF download includes the score followed by each individual part.

Translated from French, it means Dance of the Little Swans, also known as Dance of the cygnets. It is very challenging because all dancers must look the same.Ivanov's choreography—created for the famous revival of Swan Lake in 1895—was meant to imitate the way cygnets huddle and move together for protection. Four dancers enter the stage in a line and move across with their arms crossed in front of one another, grasping the next dancer's hand. They move sideways, doing sixteen pas de chat. Ideally the dancers move in exact or near-exact unison. At the very end, they break their chain and try to fly, only to drop to the ground.This arrangement for brass quintet includes the following parts: Bb Trumpet 1, Bb Trumpet 2, F Horn, Trombone, Tuba.There are two different keys (D Minor & C Minor) in the arrangement to meet all the quintet's execution capabilities.

It appears he has had his wicked way once already but now she is sleeping. This is the first song for a quartet of Soprano, Alto, Tenor and Bass. The seventh book is quite a change from the earlier ones. Monteverdi seems to be concentrating on developing solos and duets, trios and small accompanied ensembles. The accompaniments are often written out with more than just long note chords. The intricate instrumental parts are more than just filling in the harmony (hence the difficulty in paring them down.) Once again, these songs are exquisitely crafted and travel well onto brass.
