This brass quintet arrangement of music from the opera Carmen by Georges Bizet is organized in 3 sections. The first section is the March of the Torreadors. Following this is the beautiful solo for trombone of the Flower Song (La fleur que tu m’avais jetée). The final section concludes with the classic tune always associated with Carmen, Habanera, a real workout for the tuba player.

The Lost Chord is a song composed by Arthur Sullivan in 1877 at the bedside of his brother Fred during Fred's last illness. The manuscript is dated 13 January 1877; Fred Sullivan died five days later. The lyric was written as a poem by Adelaide Anne Procter called A Lost Chord, published in 1858 in The English Woman's Journal.

This arrangement for Brass Quintet is a great addition to any concert. It gives the chance to show off the lyrical qualities of the brass family, as well as having a powerful and emotional ending which will satisfy any audience.

The Christmas Song (Chestnuts Roasting on an Open Fire) is a classic Christmas song written in 1945 by Bob Wells and Mel Tormé.

This arrangement for Brass Quintet is a great addition to your quintet's Christmas concert, or even for busking. The first trumpet part can be played on a flugelhorn for a sweeter sound if desired; this part stays well within the flugelhorn's range and has the melody a lot of the time. Brass players and audience alike are sure to enjoy this arrangement.

BEING WITH TIME was composed in 2002. It is one of my very early compositions and my first attempt at writing a brass quintet. I performed various low brass instruments in my younger years, and I learned a lot about how to write for brass as a result. The horn is the most challenging of the parts, but nothing here is too overwhelming for a college-level player. The work is set in a type of rondo form with various new ideas introduced throughout the work. The title is based on the feeling of peace in your life one gets while focusing on the present moment instead of worrying about the future.v Difficulty: Grade 4 (medium advanced). Duration: 4:40.
