Composed by Traditional English Carol. Arranged by Dennis Ruello. Christmas,Holiday,Renaissance,Sacred,Standards. Score and parts. 7 pages. Chicory Music #5327901. Published by Chicory Music (A0.734419).

The Boar's Head Carol
This Christmas carol talks about a feast during midwinter in which a wild boar was served as the main dish and its head placed in a situated position to symbolize bravery and abundance. Closely related to the Norse tradition of boar sacrifice to their goddess Freyja during the feast of Winter Solstice, this song originated from an urban legend in Queen's College, Oxford back in the 15th century which tells of how a scholar from Queen’s College managed to kill an attacking boar and offered it at dinner.

The song was first published in English during the 1520’s in a book entitled Christmase Carolles Newly Emprynted at London in the flete street, which was written by Jan van Wynken de Worde. It is also said to be the very 1st Christmas carol to ever be publish in English because it dates back that early.

Although the modern versions of the song makes no mention of Christmas, the original verses does so in The boar's head we bring with song, in worship of Him that thus sprung, of a Virgin to redress all wrong; Noel

This Intermediate Level arrangement starts out in Bb Major and modulates to  C Major for the final chorus.

Performance time approx. 1 minute 45 seconds.

Composed by Harry Warren. Arranged by Alessandro Macrì. Contemporary. Score and parts. 11 pages. Music Macri Editions #5371685. Published by Music Macri Editions (A0.931228).

Composed by Jeremiah Savile. Arranged by Peet du Toit. Contemporary. Score and parts. 7 pages. Peet du Toit #6048841. Published by Peet du Toit (A0.802625).

Here's a Health unto His Majesty is an English patriotic song or glee. It is used as the regimental march
of the Royal Army Medical Corps having been selected by Brigadier Hugh Llewellyn Glyn Hughes in 1948.
Note the song is never Here's A Health unto Her Majesty.

It dates from the reign of King Charles II, and was composed by Jeremiah Savile, a prominent teacher
for the voyce or viol during the English Commonwealth and Restoration in London. The music was first
published in John Playford's The Musical Companion of 1667, arranged for three voices; treble, tenor
and bass, together with the lyrics for single verse:

Here's a health unto His Majesty,
With a fa la la la la la la,
Confusion to his enemies,
With a fa la la la la la la.
And he who would not drink his health,
We wish him neither wit nor wealth,
Nor yet a rope to hang himself.
With a fal lal la la la la la la la la,
With a fal lal la la la la la.
The song became popular again during the near-fatal illness of King George V in 1928, sometimes being sung in theatres before God Save the King.

Composed by Sergei Rachmaninoff. Arranged by Peet du Toit. Contemporary. Score and parts. 17 pages. Peet du Toit #5793495. Published by Peet du Toit (A0.802564).

Sergei Rachmaninoff's Prelude in C-sharp minor, Op. 3, No. 2, is one of the composer's most famous compositions. Part of a set of five piano pieces entitled Morceaux de fantaisie, it is a 62-bar prelude in ternary (ABA) form. It is also known as The Bells of Moscow since the introduction seems to reproduce the Kremlin's most solemn carillon chimes.

Its first performance was by the composer on 26 September 1892, at a festival called the Moscow Electrical Exhibition. After this première, a review of the concert singled out the Prelude, noting that it had aroused enthusiasm. From this point on, its popularity grew.

This work was one of the first the 19‑year‑old Rachmaninoff composed as a Free Artist, after he graduated from the Moscow Conservatory on 29 May 1892. He performed this new work for the first time at one of the concerts of the Moscow Electrical Exhibition on 26 September 1892. It was printed the following year as the second of five Morceaux de fantaisie (Op. 3), all dedicated to Anton Arensky, his harmony teacher at the Conservatory. Because at the time Russia was not party to the 1886 Berne Convention, Russian publishers did not pay royalties, so the only financial return he ever received for this piece was a 40 ruble (about two months' wage of a factory worker) publishing fee.

The prelude has been arranged for orchestra in several versions. It has been used in many films, and many songs have sampled it. I thought it would sound great on brass instruments if played well. Well, here it is for you to play well. Enjoy!

Composed by Traditional Basque Carol. Arranged by Todd Marchand. Christmas,Holiday,Sacred,Traditional. Score and parts. 18 pages. Con Spirito Music #4798963. Published by Con Spirito Music (A0.726091).

Gabriel's Message (The Angel Gabriel to Heaven Came) is a folk carol from the Basque Country, the region that straddles the westernmost Pyrenees Mountains in adjacent parts of northern Spain and southwestern France. A vernacular paraphrase of the 13th/14th-century Latin carol, Angelus ad virginem, the text was translated from Basque and paraphrased into English by the Anglican priest and scholar Sabine Baring-Gould (1834-1924).

Commonly sung at Advent and Christmas, Gabriel's Message quotes the biblical account of the Annunciation (Luke 1:26-38) and the Magnificat (Luke 1:46-55) in its opening lines:

The angel Gabriel from heaven came,
his wings as drifted snow, his eyes as flame;
All hail, said he, thou lowly maiden Mary,
most highly favoured lady. Gloria!

The Basque tune was collected and published by the French composer Charles Bordes (1863-1909) in Archives de la tradition basque (1890) and was arranged and published by the English organist/choirmaster Edgar Pettman (1866-1943) in his 1892 collection, Modern Christmas Carols. Pettman's setting remains a favorite among choirs to this day.

This arrangement features each of the voices of the brass quintet on the tune and augments the ensemble with optional finger cymbals and tambourine.
