He overheard someone at the party saying to a woman, You've turned a whiter shade of pale, and the phrase stuck in his mind. Here is my representation of this magical music to be performed by a brass quintet and a percussionist. Brass Ensemble,Brass Quintet Horn,Trombone,Trumpet,Tuba - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1514884 Composed by William Ortiz. 21st Century,Chamber,Contemporary,Hip-Hop,Latin. 16 pages. William Ortiz #1089378. Published by William Ortiz (A0.1514884). “Sandungueo”, for Brass Quintet, uses Caribbean and Hip-Hop dance motives to create a lively and energetic dancescape. The opening fragmented “cencerro” and reggaeton rhythmic motive proclaimed is significant in that it introduces the works essence. “Sandungueo” is a style of dance and party music associated with reggaeton. This “cencerro” and “guaguanco” tumbao motives return throughout the piece in various guises and changes of tonality. The piece emulates a jazz ensemble where there are sections in which the instruments are called upon to solo against a rhythmic basso continuo or vamp. Latin and Hip-Hop rhythmic motives are prominent and integral to the work. This piece is a reworking of the second movement of my “Quinteto de Metales”.

Horn,Trombone,Trumpet,Tuba - Level 5 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1158419 Composed by Dr. Daniel N. Thrower. 20th Century,Chamber,Classical,Comedy,Contemporary. 31 pages. Https://gildedmusicpress.com/ #758705. Published by https://gildedmusicpress.com/ (A0.1158419). This piece was inspired by a post-concert reception with the Sioux City Symphony to which all musicians, season ticket holders, and other select guests were invited. As I found a place to sit down and geek out with some fellow trumpeters, a group of concertgoers began to gather at the adjacent table. Each guest that joined that animated group added more character until they had spilled over into our small gathering. Their conversations also spilled over, including a couple of mild warnings about one final guest who would be joining us, who had already had just a bit too much to drink. Of course, she sat by me—a seasoned Brit with an easy-going love of life. During the course of the evening, several pairs of glasses made their way out of her purse and onto her head. Her friend asked me to take her picture and send it to her. That dignified portrait, textured and filtered with color highlights, became the cover to this work. “Concertgoers†is a musical soundtrack to that memorable evening with the unforgettable group of concertgoers. It begins with the motivic intro in the horn that becomes the main melodic content throughout the work which repeats in allusion to concertgoers joining the festivities one by one until the party blooms in full. Quirky and fun, this piece paints a fitting aural picture of the cacophonous reception and varied chatter of the evening. The use of chromaticism provides much of the quirkiness, along with the use of mixed meter for some of the varieties of that night of entertainment. These modern compositional techniques challenge a good college-level quintet, though it is accessible to the musicians and listenable to the average concertgoer. To program it on a brass quintet concert or recital aptly tips the hat in acknowledgement of the audience, as it is a dedicated piece just for them!

Brass Ensemble,Brass Quintet Horn,Trombone,Trumpet,Tuba - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1514082 Composed by Oscar Hammerstein and Richard Rodgers. Arranged by Mary Clark. Broadway,Film/TV,Musical/Show,Standards. 30 pages. Second Wind Music #1088546. Published by Second Wind Music (A0.1514082). This short piece could be fun to use for the end of a performance or as an encore.  This arrangement follows the original musical vocal and orchestral score closely, featuring each member of the quintet with a verse of the melody and on fun transition phrases. In the musical The Sound of Music, “So Long, Farewell”, is performed for dinner guests by the children of the host, Captain von Trapp.  As the children are heading off to bed, one by one they sing their goodbyes.  After the youngest barely stays awake for her final verse, the children give one final, yawning goodbye and the party guests in turn responds “goodbye” before sitting down for dinner. [Source: The Rodgers & Hammerstein Organization] In this arrangement, the “So Long, Farewell” melody moves between each of the five instrumental parts, similar to how the melody in the vocal version from the musical moves from one of the children to the next as well as covers the orchestral phrases and accompaniments.
