Brass Quintet Horn,Trombone,Trumpet,Tuba - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1463555 By Sonny Rollins. By Sonny Rollins. Arranged by Will Corbin. Jazz. 21 pages. Will Corbin #1042294. Published by Will Corbin (A0.1463555). A saxophonist was playing this catchy song outside New Orleans' Cafe du Monde one morning when I was visiting. When I figured out what the tune was, I was driven to arrange it for our quintet. The result is at least good for one illustration: If you thought you needed drums for calypso or Latin, think again. Horns work pretty well.Jazz tenor sax great Sonny Rollins wrote this, mostly as a vehicle for improvisation. It's based on a Bahamian folk melody called Sponger Money, which may or may not be based on a British folk song called The Lincolnshire Poacher. Whatever the case, it's a variation on a song Rollins' mother sang to him when he was a child in the Virgin Islands. This arrangement -- not as easy to play as it looks, because of the rhythms -- is for two trumpets, horn, trombone and tuba. It's also perfect for the improv-impaired -- but can also serve as a framework for players who are good at it.If you need alternative instrumentation, please contact me at wilcor@aol.com.

Brass Ensemble - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.923891 Composed by Paul St-Amand. Christian,Contemporary,Easter,Sacred. Score and parts. 15 pages. BBQ Editions #3385417. Published by BBQ Editions (A0.923891). This chorale for brass quintet is a showcase for the 1st trumpeter, with several solo passages, and a soaring descant in the final passage. The piece is based on a line from Psalm 31, variously translated as Into your hands I commend my spirit or Father, I put my life in Your hands. The central musical theme is extrapolated from a basic melodic idea originally intended to be sung by a cantor. While it may be played year-round, In Your Hands makes an especially fitting selection during the Easter season. In Your Hands was composed by Bedford Brass Quintet trumpeter Paul St-Amand in memory of his father, Gerry. The piece was premiered at Harmony & Hope: A Concert for Cancer Research in 2015.Performance time is approx. 4:30.

Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.549857 Composed by Johann Sebastian Bach. Arranged by James M. Guthrie, ASCAP. Baroque,Easter,Sacred,Wedding. 17 pages. Jmsgu3 #3556935. Published by jmsgu3 (A0.549857). Wachet auf, ruft uns die Stimme (Awake, the Voice is calling us) from Cantata BWV 140.  Program this for church services during Easter or as a recital encore. Also great for Weddings. Wachet auf, ruft uns die Stimme (Awake, the Voice is calling us) also known as Sleepers Awake Bach composed his church cantata Wachet auf (BWV 140) as part of his second annual cantata cycle covering the entire church calendar. It is based on the hymn of the same name by Philipp Nicolai (1599). The hymn text covers the readings for the 27th Sunday after Trinity. Bach designed the cantata in seven movements, setting the stanzas in various forms. Among these forms are the chorale fantasia, the prelude, and a four-part chorale. He casts the new lyrics as recitatives – like the opera. Fourth Movement Bach writes the fourth movement, Zion hört die Wächter singen (Zion hears the guards singing), in the style of a chorale prelude with the chorale phrases performed as a strict cantus firmus. The phrases seem to enter at times erratically against the famous lyrical melody. The violins play this melody in unison as a foil against the cantus phrases. The violin melody is so independent and complete that when the cantus melody appears; it catches the listener off-guard. Bach later transcribed this movement for organ (BWV 645). This transcription became No. 1 of the Six Schübler Chorales. Bach Overview First, Johann Sebastian Bach may be the greatest composer in music history. Indeed, he was prolific. As a result, everyone has heard of his works. Furthermore, these works number well over a thousand. People are probably most familiar with instrumental works such as the Brandenburg Concertos and the Goldberg Variations. But, similarly famous are such noteworthy works as the Well-Tempered Clavier, the Musical Offering, and the Art of Fugue. His most famous vocal works seem to include the most noteworthy Mass in B Minor. Also, most notable are the St. John Passion and, indeed, the Christmas Oratorio.  History Bach came from a long line of musicians and, above all, composers. Consequently, he first of all pursued a career as a church organist. As a result, he gained employment in various Protestant churches in Germany. He worked as a court musician in Weimar and Köthen for a while. Here, he probably developed his organ style and, likewise, his chamber music style. Eventually, he gained an appointment as Cantor of St. Thomas in Leipzig. Here, he worked until difficulties with his employer ultimately drove him away. The King of Poland finally appointed him as court composer.  Style It seems like Bach created a fascinating new international style. He synthesized elements of the most noteworthy European music ideas into his unique style. This new style was probably his synthesis of European musical rhythm and form. Furthermore, he demonstrated a complete mastery of counterpoint and motivic development. His sense of harmonic organization probably propelled him to the top. Revival               Mendelssohn conducted a Bach revival in the nineteenth century. His effort probably helped to re-familiarize the public with the magnitude of Bach's works. During this period, scholars published many noteworthy Bach biographies. Moreover, Wolfgang Schmieder published the BWV (Bach Werke Verzeichnis). As a result, this is now the official catalog of his entire artistic output. The BWV number allows us to locate a work in the catalog. Sometimes scholars will use an S (Schmieder) as an abbreviation for BWV.

Brass Ensemble - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.774063 Arranged by Anthony Giamanco. Christian,Concert,Easter,Sacred. Score and parts. 23 pages. Whole Tone Press #6638585. Published by Whole Tone Press (A0.774063). Expertly arranged for brass quintet, this work, based on the well-known hymn, ST. FLAVIAN, captures the somber mood of the forty-day journey through the Lenten season. Following the opening march-like fanfare, the familiar melody enters in the 1st trumpet above the drone of the trombone and tuba. Then the tuba takes the melody, transposing it to G Dorian, then, briefly to A Mixolydian. At the key change, the melody returns to its original form, now taken up by the French horn. The opening fanfare returns in an abbreviated form in the coda as the piece ends quietly on a D6/9 chord.Anthony Giamanco is a member of ASCAP. His many piano, organ, choir, and chamber works are in the catalogs of numerous publishers including GIA, Shawnee Press, Alfred, Augsburg Fortress, Lorenz, and others. His music also can be purchased through sheetmusicplus.com, Sheet Music Marketplace, and JW Pepper.Anthony's music can be heard on his website, anthonygiamanco.com,https://www.anthonygiamanco.com,on SoundCloudhttps://soundcloud.com/tony-giamanco,and on his YouTube channelParticularly appropriate for Lenten services, this short work can be played during the prelude, the offering, or as a meditation during communion.

The performance duration is two and a half minutes and the full score has five individual parts attached. This arrangement is suitable in any service of worship where this hymn is admired. It is also great repertoire for High School Brass players. Enjoy browsing my other brass quintet arrangements on SMP.

Brass Quintet Horn,Trombone,Trumpet,Tuba - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.726142 Composed by Traditional Irish Melody. Arranged by Todd Marchand. Celtic,Christian,Irish,Lent,Sacred. 14 pages. Con Spirito Music #6657777. Published by Con Spirito Music (A0.726142). What is the Crying at Jordan? is an Advent hymn with text written in the 1950s by Carol Christopher Drake, a member of St. Mark’s Episcopal Church, Berkeley, California. Although the text (which is copyrighted by the author and appears by permission in The Hymnal 1982 of the Episcopal Church) cannot be reproduced here, it speaks of the longing, introspection, and expectation of a world lost in sin for the Incarnation of the Word of God and the dawn of salvation. The traditional Irish tune on which this arrangement is based came from a Gaelic collection, Dánta Dé (Poems of God, or Verses About God - Dublin 1928). The tune had no name in Dánta Dé, and was later named ST. MARK'S, BERKELEY when paired with Drake's text.A haunting, evocative tune, What is the Crying at Jordan? reflects the somber yet hopeful mood of Advent. ©2021 Todd Marchand / ConSpiritoMusic.
