Brass Ensemble,Brass Quintet Horn,Trombone,Trumpet,Tuba - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1147711 Composed by Traditional French Melody. Arranged by Todd Marchand. Christian,Christmas,Holiday,Sacred,Traditional. Score and parts. 16 pages. Con Spirito Music #747929. Published by Con Spirito Music (A0.1147711). “The Huron Carol†is the popular name for a Christmas song written in the language of the Wendat, an indigenous people of Canada — their name meaning “people of the island†or “dwellers on a peninsula†— nicknamed “Huron†(“boar's headâ€) by French explorers and traders due to the bristly hairstyle of Wendat men.The song began as a tool for teaching and converting the Wendat to Christianity, and it was likely written in the early 1640s by the French Jesuit missionary, Jean de Brébeuf. In Wendat, the song is titled “Jesous Ahatonnia,†which means “Jesus is Born.†The song's melody is based on a traditional French folk song, “Une Jeune Pucelle†(“A Young Maidâ€). Jean de Brébeuf’s lyrics present the Nativity story using images and ideas that would have been familiar to the Wendat. Angels are “spirits†and “sky peopleâ€; the Magi (wise men) are “elders,†and as an act of reverence they oil Jesus’ scalp, a practice Wendat people would have recognized. Today, “The Huron Carol's†most well-known lyrics, beginning “'Twas in the moon of winter-time,†were written by Canadian poet Jesse Middleton and published in 1927 in a small illustrated book titled “The First Canadian Christmas Carol.â€Middleton’s text is not a translation, but a complete rewriting of “Jesous Ahatonnia†for English speakers, and bears almost no relation to the original Wendat text. Middleton relied on stereotypes, critics say, painting a picture of an indigenous Nativity in a “lodge of broken bark,†with “hunter braves†replacing shepherds, and “gifts of fur and beaver pelt†delivered by “chiefs from far.†Still, the carol has long been popular, perhaps in part due to its refrain, “Jesus your King is born, Jesus is born. In excelsis gloria!†and its pairing with the easily singable “Une Jeune Pucelle†tune. This arrangement for brass quintet takes a contemplative, lyrical approach, featuring rich harmonies to the chant-like tune and contrasts in dynamics and tempo that evoke both the quiet peace and solemnity accompanying the birth of Christ.©Copyright 2022 Todd Marchand / Con Spirito Music (ASCAP). BrazzMusic - Dean Boysen #2035717. Published by BrazzMusic - Dean Boysen (A0.812026). Good King Wenceslas, a traditional Christmastime favorite has been transformed by this arranger into a spectacular brass quintet feature. It is joyous and energetic and demonstrates strong melody content with antiphonal bell-like sounds and subtle echoes. Two modulations and three easily played key signatures make this piece a winner for any brass quintet. 1st trumpet part to high D measure easily plays one octave lower if need be. This is a grade 4 level - medium advanced arrangement and will be a definite audience favorite. The original melody/tune was based on a 13th-century spring carol Tempus adest floridum (The time is near for flowering) was first published in the 1582 Finnish song collection Piae Cantiones. Enjoy and thank you for your purchase of this arrangement!

Brass Ensemble Trombone,Trumpet - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.813942 Composed by German Folk Song. Arranged by Regis Bookshar. Christmas,Concert,Instructional,World. Score and parts. 8 pages. Regis Bookshar #6631141. Published by Regis Bookshar (A0.813942). Brass Quintet - Intermediate - Digital Download. This arrangement of O Christmas Tree, or in German, O Tannenbaum, would be a fabulous addition to any music library and could be performed for Christmas concerts and recitals, and, perhaps, even church services. It is equally suitable for junior and senior high school students and even older musicians. Depending on their ability, younger musicians would also enjoy playing this selection. Included are a score and a complete set of part (8 pages). This selection is one of the many arrangements from The Regis Bookshar Trumpet Ensemble's extensive music library which are being made available for the first time.O Christmas Tree is a German Christmas song based on a traditional folk song which was unrelated to Christmas. The custom of the Christmas tree developed in the course of the 19th century, and the song came to be seen as a Christmas carol. The modern lyrics were written in 1824 by the Leipzig organist, teacher and composer, Ernst Anschutz. A tannenbaum is a fir tree. The lyrics do not actually refer to Christmas or describe a decorated tree. Instead, they refer to the fir's evergreen quality as a symbol of constancy and faithfulness. In this arrangement of O Christmas Tree, Regis Bookshar has kept the basic outline of this familiar song, but has inserted a short interlude, which brings to mind the sound of alphorns, or alpenhorns, instruments which may be made from red pine, or fir trees. and are used by mountain dwellers in the Bavarian Alps. I think that students will enjoy this imitative section in the song. In addition to this version for a Brass Quintet, consisting of 3 Trumpets and 2 Trombones, there are also other arrangements of O Christmas Tree available for a variety of instrumental ensembles. Please take the time to look for other versions of this composition. You may find something else that might also suit your needs.I would also encourage you to search for other arrangements by Regis Bookshar, as well, as there are numerous arrangements in a wide variety of styles, also available for purchase. You may find something else which might interest you. Please continue to check periodically because new arrangements are being added as often as possible. I'm certain that this wonderful arrangement of O Christmas Tree will continue to entertain both performers ands audiences alike for years to come.

Brass Quintet Horn,Trombone,Trumpet,Tuba - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1130436 Composed by Traditional Provençal Carol. Arranged by Todd Marchand. Chamber,Christmas,Holiday,Sacred,Traditional. 10 pages. Con Spirito Music #730806. Published by Con Spirito Music (A0.1130436). Bring a Torch, Jeanette, Isabella (French: Un flambeau, Jeannette, Isabelle) is a noël, or Christmas carol, from the Provence region of France. In lyrics by French poet and playwright Émile Blémont (1839-1927), Jeannette and Isabelle are shepherdesses who, upon discovering the baby Jesus and his mother in a stable, run to a nearby village to tell the inhabitants, who are urged to come quietly and whisper softly, so as not to disturb the baby sleeping peacefully in a manger. In Provence today, as in previous generations, torches remain a Christmas tradition, as on Christmas Eve children dress up as shepherds and milkmaids, carrying torches and candles to Midnight Mass while singing the carol. The melody on which this arrangement is based may date to as early as the 14th century — not as a sacred song, but as a lively dance. French composer Marc-Antoine Charpentier (1643-1704) used the melody for a drinking song in a 1672 revival of a comedy by the French playwright Molière. Blémont's sacred lyrics first appeared with this melody in Noëls français (1901), a collection of French carols transcribed and harmonized by musicologist and composer Julien Tiersot (1857-1936).©Copyright 2022 Todd Marchand / Con Spirito Music (ASCAP). Brass Quintet Horn,Trombone,Trumpet,Tuba - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.726142 Composed by Traditional Irish Melody. Arranged by Todd Marchand. Celtic,Christian,Irish,Lent,Sacred. 14 pages. Con Spirito Music #6657777. Published by Con Spirito Music (A0.726142). What is the Crying at Jordan? is an Advent hymn with text written in the 1950s by Carol Christopher Drake, a member of St. Mark’s Episcopal Church, Berkeley, California. Although the text (which is copyrighted by the author and appears by permission in The Hymnal 1982 of the Episcopal Church) cannot be reproduced here, it speaks of the longing, introspection, and expectation of a world lost in sin for the Incarnation of the Word of God and the dawn of salvation. The traditional Irish tune on which this arrangement is based came from a Gaelic collection, Dánta Dé (Poems of God, or Verses About God - Dublin 1928). The tune had no name in Dánta Dé, and was later named ST. MARK'S, BERKELEY when paired with Drake's text.A haunting, evocative tune, What is the Crying at Jordan? reflects the somber yet hopeful mood of Advent. ©2021 Todd Marchand / ConSpiritoMusic.
