Canon in D (Pachelbel) (D) (Brass Quintet - 3 Trp, 2 Trb) - Advanced/Intermediate - Digital Download. This selection, Johann Pachelbel's celebrated Canon, is perhaps the most famous canon ever written and has been one of my favorite compositions to arrange. A canon is a polyphonic device in which several voices play the same music, entering in sequence. Pachelbel's Canon in D, was originally written in the key of D Major and was scored for three violins arranged in canon, accompanied by a basso continuo which repeats the same harmonic progression throughout the entire piece. The common musical term for this is ostinato or ground bass. Regis Bookshar has now arranged this music for a Brass Quintet consisting of 3 Trumpets and 2 Trombones. The three Trumpets play the melody in canon while the ostinato accompaniment is played by the two Trombones. This arrangement is suitable for high school and college students but could also be performed by professional performers. It is perfect for concerts and church services, especially for Weddings, but could be performed for any occasion. Included are a score and a complete set of parts (30 pages). This version is written in the key of D Major, as is the original version, but another version is also available, if you prefer, written in the key of Bb Major, to make it a little easier for some younger performers.. Other versions of Pachelbel's Canon in D have also been arranged by Regis Bookshar and are available for a wide variety of instrumental Quintets and Octets, in both the keys of D Major and Bb Major. I think that String players would probably prefer to play the versions in the key of D Major while the Brass and Woodwind musicians might prefer to play the Bb Major versions. I hope you take the time to compare the different versions to find the right version for you. To help you decide which version, or versions, you may want to choose, I have included several musical samples for you to listen to and to hear what these arrangements may sound like and so that you may compare the various arrangements. Also, just to let you know, the Octets written in the key of Bb Major have full-length recordings while the Octets in D Major and all Quintets have only the first 25 measures, or so, available to hear. Please feel free to search for other arrangements by Regis Bookshar which are also available. There are quite a few other arrangements in a variety of styles and I'm certain you will find something else which might interest you as well. I'm certain that this exciting arrangement of Pachelbel's Canon in D will be a challenge to some performers but will continue to entertain both performers and audiences alike for years to come.

Originally written for violin and piano, Salut d'Amour is one of Elgar's most famous works and has been reimagined in many ways. This particular arrangement for brass quintet features the french horn. The luxurious and soaring sounds of the horn give a new spirit to the sweet melody of this tune, whilst the rest of the ensemble (trumpets, trombone, and tuba) provide a light version of the original piano accompaniment. Elgar wrote this work as an engagement present for his wife, Caroline Alice, and dedicates it à Carice- a combination of her names. It was originally titled Liebesgruss, or Love's Greeting and later revised to Salut d'Amour post publication. This simple arrangement is an excellent embodiment of the tender and loving inspiration presented in its original version.

Parlami d'amore Mariù è un brano musicale italiano del 1932, scritto da Ennio Neri (testo) e Cesare Andrea Bixio (musica) per la voce di Vittorio De Sica (Columbia, WB 5066), che l'avrebbe interpretato nel film Gli uomini, che mascalzoni.... La canzone è dedicata alla moglie di Bixio, Mary, detta Mariù.
Stefano Pittaluga, che era il patron della casa cinematografica Cines, fu sostituito da Emilio Cecchi e (non senza qualche nervosismo) impose che il film avesse per colonna sonora principale la canzone Taxi (titolo provvisorio anche della pellicola); permise tuttavia che fosse inserita anche Parlami d'amore Mariù, che risultò poi di tutt'altra memorabilità.
Durante le riprese, il regista Mario Camerini e Bixio forzarono l'utilizzo del brano: nella scena della trattoria, in cui De Sica balla con la ragazza, doveva sentirsi in sottofondo un organino suonare. Nottetempo e contro l'avviso della produzione, compositore e regista si fecero appositamente realizzare un rullo per l'organino con la musica della canzone; il rullo fu pronto alle sette del mattino e, poco dopo, Camerini sostituì il rullo dell'organino e iniziarono le riprese con quel sottofondo.
Pubblicato in origine dalle edizioni musicali di proprietà di Pittaluga, venne in seguito acquisita dal Gruppo Editoriale Bixio.

This composition was written and abandoned in 2015. In 2023 I’ve revisited and revised it because it’s just such a silly theme.
The tuba part goes fairly low, so in the process of revising, a new, more accessible Tuba part (smol) was written. Both parts are compatible, interchangeable and it’s up to the performer which part to use.

Transposed from A minor down to G minor to suit brass instrumentation

The Requiem in D minor, K. 626, is a requiem mass by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart (1756–1791). Mozart composed part of the Requiem in Vienna in late 1791, but it was unfinished at his death on 5 December the same year. A completed version dated 1792 by Franz Xaver Süssmayr was delivered to Count Franz von Walsegg, who commissioned the piece for a requiem service on 14 February 1792 to commemorate the first anniversary of the death of his wife Anna at the age of 20 on 14 February 1791.

This is my arrangement of No.5 Confutatis (From the accursed).It begins with a rhythmic and dynamic sequence of strong contrasts and surprising harmonic turns on tuba and horn the tenors and basses (Trumpets and trombone) burst into a forte vision of the infernal, on a dotted rhythm. The accompaniment then ceases , and trumpet 1 and tbn enter softly and sotto voce, (Voca me cum benedictis ()Call upon me with the blessed) with an arpeggiated accompaniment on horn and trumpet 2.

Finally, in the following stanza (Oro supplex et acclinis), there is a striking modulation from G minor to Gb minor.

This music suits the brass quintet.

Section III of the requiem is titled “Sequenz� (sequentia or sequence). It is made up of the following pieces
