'Adoration', originally composed for organ is truly one of the most beautiful slow pieces. Florence B. Price (1887-1953) was the first major black female composer in music history. Her first symphony was premiered by the chicago symphony orchestra in 1933.

'Adoration' fits perfectly in church settings, it's sentimental melodies work for funerals as well as for weddings. It also gets performed in concert setting regularily. Felix Linsmeier arranged this piece for several different ensembles, this particular version was performed by major orchestras such as National Youth Orchestra of Great Britain, Charlotte Symphony, Richmond Symphony or the Grand Rapids Symphony.

Ich bin der Welt abhanden gekommen is the third song of Gustav Mahler's famous cycle Rückert-Lieder. Rückert-Lieder (Songs after Rückert) is a collection of five Lieder for voice and orchestra or piano, based on poems written by Friedrich Rückert. The first four songs were premiered on 29 January 1905 in Vienna, Mahler himself conducting, together with his Kindertotenlieder (also on poems by Rückert). The set of songs was not intended as a cycle: the Lieder were originally published independently from each other, connected only by the poetry and common themes. However, they were later published together and most often have been performed together and come to be known as the Rückert-Lieder, although Mahler did set more texts of Rückert. This arrangement for brass quintet puts the singer's part for flugelhorn solo with the rest of the ensemble playing an adaption of the original's orchestra accompaniment. Using combination of mutes and open playing this arrangement archieves a differentiated sound that makes the complicated late-romantic harmony and counterpoint work really well in the stripped-down instrumentation.

'Venise' from the 2 Esquisses italiennes, Opp.33-34 is a beautiful barcarolle for piano solo. Teresa Carreño (1853 – 1917) was a Venezuelan pianist, soprano, composer, and conductor. Over the course of her 54-year concert career, she became an internationally renowned virtuoso pianist and was often referred to as the Valkyrie of the Piano. Carreño also frequently performed the works of Norwegian composer and pianist Edvard Grieg (1843–1907). Shecomposed approximately 75 works for solo piano, voice and piano, choir and orchestra, and instrumental ensemble. Several composers dedicated their compositions to Carreño, including Amy Beach and Edward MacDowell.

La plus que lente (The more than slow) is a waltz for solo piano written by Claude Debussy in 1910. The piece debuted at the New Carlton Hotel in Paris, where it was transcribed for strings and performed by the popular 'gipsy' violinist, Léoni, for whom Debussy wrote it. Debussy arranged the piece for small orchestra (flute, clarinet, piano, cimbalom and strings) which was published in 1912. This arrangement for brass quintet is challenging and virtuos for all players with an especially rewarding trumpet part.

Ich bin der Welt abhanden gekommen (I am lost to the world) is one of Gustav Mahler's most well known songs. Based on a poem by Friedrich Rückert it is part of Mahler's 'Rückert-Lieder' and one of his most beautiful love songs. Mahler himself quotes the melody in his famous 'Adagietto' from the fifth symphony, a musical declaration of love to his wife Alma. The composer himself orchestrated this song for orchestra and soloist, this purely instrumental adaption for brass quintet (with featured Flugelhorn soloist) brings the song back to it's original, chamber-musical intimacy.
