Transposed from A minor down to G minor to suit brass instrumentation The Requiem in D minor, K. 626, is a requiem mass by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart (1756–1791). Mozart composed part of the Requiem in Vienna in late 1791, but it was unfinished at his death on 5 December the same year. A completed version dated 1792 by Franz Xaver Süssmayr was delivered to Count Franz von Walsegg, who commissioned the piece for a requiem service on 14 February 1792 to commemorate the first anniversary of the death of his wife Anna at the age of 20 on 14 February 1791. This is my arrangement of No.5 Confutatis (From the accursed).It begins with a rhythmic and dynamic sequence of strong contrasts and surprising harmonic turns on tuba and horn the tenors and basses (Trumpets and trombone) burst into a forte vision of the infernal, on a dotted rhythm. The accompaniment then ceases , and trumpet 1 and tbn enter softly and sotto voce, (Voca me cum benedictis ()Call upon me with the blessed) with an arpeggiated accompaniment on horn and trumpet 2. Finally, in the following stanza (Oro supplex et acclinis), there is a striking modulation from G minor to Gb minor. This music suits the brass quintet. Section III of the requiem is titled “Sequenz� (sequentia or sequence). It is made up of the following pieces I have arrangements of all of them, for varying types of ensemble * Dies irae * Tuba mirum * Rex tremendae * Recordare * Confutatis * Lacrymosa. I have also arranged Mozarts Motet “Ave Verum Corpus� K618.

Measures 152 to 214 is modeled after “Bydlo� and uses the carols “God Rest Ye Merry, Gentlemen� and “Good King Wenceslaus�. This is followed by a setting of Hark! The Herald Angels Sing� from measures 253 - 280 that is influenced by “The Hut on Fowl’s Legs.� This leads directly into a majestic chorale setting of “O Come, All Ye Faithful� that is modeled after “The Great Gate of Kiev� as it brings the piece to a triumphant conclusion.

Trumpets will want to use C trumpet, Piccolo Trumpet, Flugelhorn, (maybe Bb and D trumpets as well) and all players will need mutes. I've only performed it complete once. It would be a show stopping piece for any concert, recital, or special event. Each movement could be played individually, and several of them work very well as solo pieces, or in tandem with another movement. Good luck!
