The Toccata and Fugue in D Minor, BWV 565, is one of Johann Sebastian Bach's most famous organ compositions. It follows a typical North German structure with three main sections - a free opening (toccata), a fugal section (fugue), and a short free closing section. The exact date of composition is uncertain, but it's believed to have been written before 1708. There is no surviving autograph manuscript. The oldest known source is an undated copy by Johannes Ringk, a student of one of Bach's pupils. It was first published in 1833 through the efforts of composer Felix Mendelssohn during the early Bach Revival period. It gained widespread recognition after being featured in Disney's 1940 film Fantasia, which Leopold Stokowski adapted for orchestra. The piece has become strongly associated with horror films and Gothic imagery in Western culture. The Toccata begins with dramatic flourishes and arpeggios, showcasing the organist's virtuosity. The fugue is characterized by overlapping repetitions of the central theme in different melodic lines. It employs simple triadic harmony but includes some unexpected elements, such as a C minor subject entry and a solo pedal statement.

This arrangement of “ Her Town Too “ is scored for brass quintet. It is playable by intermediate/advanced players and makes a great encore. Although scored for flugelhorn, trumpets could of course be substituted.

Étude Op. 10, No. 3, in E major, Tristesse, is a study for solo piano composed by Frédéric Chopin in 1832. It was first published in 1833 in France, Germany, and England as the third piece of his Études Op. 10. This is a slow cantabile study for polyphonic and expressive legato playing. 

Scored here for Brass Quintet, “ Tristesse “ adds a delightful addition to any concert. Although Flugelhorns are called for , trumpets may of course be substituted.

The Violin Concerto in D major, Op. 61, was written by Ludwig van Beethoven in 1806. Its first performance by Franz Clement was unsuccessful and for some decades the work languished in obscurity, until revived in 1844. Since then it has become one of the best-known and regularly performed violin concertos.

This arrangement is scored for Brass Quintet and makes a lively and exciting addition to any concert or recital. The horn takes the lead but plenty to play for everyone.

This original overture from the post Civil War brass band era adds to Americana programming with an exciting musical alternative to the popular melody and dance arrangements played by the all-brass bands of the mid and late 19th century. This centennial musical celebration from 1876 is scored for traditional brass band instruments (E-flat and B-flat cornets, E-flat alto horn, baritone, tuba) but includes alternate parts B-flat cornet/trumpet for E-flat cornet and F horn for E-flat alto horn. The audio file is an actual brass quintet performance of the entire work and not a computer playback of the score.
