Blues and jazz master composer Maceo Pinkard's Anti-Loafin' Blues is a slow, grinding blues number. This classic blues number was written toward the end of World War I as a patriotic song, extolling men who had qualified for draft exemptions on the basis of supporting a dependent family to be sure to provide that support.   Ultimately sympathy for men supporting dependent families waned and in 1943 this exemption class was retired. Ben Bernie and Maceo Pinkard wrote this soon-to-become jazz standard in 1925 and Bernie recorded it for the first time the same year with his Hotel Roosevelt Orchestra. There's some story about inspiration coming from a Georgia politician who sired a daughter, and the state legislature passed an act requiring him to name the girl Georgia (hence Georgia named her.) Right.
The song is probably best known as the one that played whenever the Harlem Globetrotters took the court.
