Joseph von Eybler was one of the first composers to be asked to complete the score and had worked on a number of movements but felt unable to complete the remainder and gave the manuscript back to Constanze Mozart. The task was then given to another composer, Franz Xaver Sussmayr. Sussmayr borrowed some of Eybler's work in making his completion, added his own orchestration to other movements and added several new movements which a Requiem Mass would normally comprise. He then added a final section by adapting the opening two movements which Mozart had written to the different words which finish the Requiem Mass, which according to both Sussmayr and Mozart's wife, was done according to Mozart's directions. The completed score, initially by Mozart but largely finished by Sussmayr, was then dispatched to Count Walsegg complete with a counterfeited signature of Mozart dated 1792. Despite the controversy over how much of the music is actually Mozart's, the commonly performed Sussmayr version has become widely accepted by the public, and is considered one of Mozart's finest compositions. The Recordare is considered by many people to be one of the most beautiful compositions in Mozart's entire catalogue. Regis Bookshar, a trumpet player, has performed the Requiem in concert with a full orchestra, soloists and a chorus and felt that other musicians should have the opportunity to play the hauntingly beautiful Recordare as well. So, in addition to this arrangement for a Brass Quintet, he has made quite a few other arrangements of this beautiful composition. There are Quintets, Sextets, Septets and Octets readily available for a wide variety of instrumental ensembles. Please take the time to look for other versions of this composition. Hauntingly beautiful is how the Recordare from Mozart's Requiem is often described. Originally written for an orchestra and four vocal soloists, it has now been transcribed by Regis Bookshar for a Brass Quintet, consisting of 2 Bb Trumpets, 1 French Horn and 2 Trombones, and would be a wonderful addition to any music library. This arrangement will provide students with the opportunity to practice breath control because of its long, sustained phrases, and also to give them the chance to play this beautiful composition, something which they may not have had the opportunity to do, otherwise. This selection could be performed for concerts, recitals and church services and is suitable for high school and college students but professional musicians would also enjoy playing this arrangement. Published by https://gildedmusicpress.com/ (A0.1158388). My wife’s from-scratch cinnamon rolls are famous throughout our community—especially among our children’s circle of friends. While enjoying a socially-distanced church service at home on Easter Sunday, there was a batch of those butterfly-inducing cinnamon rolls baking in the new oven. They filled the home with an exquisite aromatic delight. Then the magic motif chimed: “The food is done!� I happened to have my composition notebook with me, and the little four-note tune inspired this composition. It just naturally took me in some happy musical directions, and within a minute or two, the melodic content, replete with fun-filled, muted second-trumpet echoes, was scrawled down. The next day, the music was entered into the computer. It is interesting that I gave the horn the cliché off-beats that all hornists know and love so well. Funny, I usually pride myself on writing for horn as an equal musical instrument; however, this fun, happy melody just demanded an “um-pah� accompaniment. Hopefully there is enough variety to keep the part fun to play. It helps that the piece is only two minutes and something long. The transition into the B section almost wrote itself, modulating to the relative minor. There I paused briefly, wondering how to treat a minor section in such an exuberant piece. Oh, but inspiration continued to flow, and I resumed writing in earnest with a mischievous smile! This section beautifully portrays a naughty, sneaky kid tiptoeing into the kitchen for another cinnamon roll—forbidden until after dinner! The listener can hear the kid’s nervous fluttering heart, and moments of pulling his hand back in startled impishness, and even shuddering as he looks fearfully over his shoulder. At the end of the B section, he gets caught! Witnessing that low-hanging head and puppy dog eyes, mommy finds that she can’t scold the lad too severely. “After dinner, little one…� she reprimands with an understanding grin. The jubilant melody returns to round out the work’s ternary ABA form, though this time with a very sticky Ives-esque climax, reminiscent of a gooey cinnamon roll mess. Too enjoyable to be bothered by prospects of cleaning up, the music shrugs it off with flippant ragtime syncopations, and ends with the “hic-burp� of a very satisfied tummy.

Published by Musica Nova USA (A0.917402). Petite Suite for Brass Quintet is a light-hearted piece for brass quintet in four movements with a duration of fourteen minutes. The four movements follow the basic Classical symphonic form - Allegro, Adagio, Scherzo (Presto) and Finale (Presto). The first movement Strombor has a fanfare at the beginning with a melodic 2nd theme in the French Horn. The second movement is based on a slow cantabile theme. The 3rd movement Attack of the Killer Bees includes a bit of theatre. Throughout the movement there is a buzzing of bees, which are killed at the end when all the players stomp on them. The 4th movement Finale has a feeling of cartoon music, ending with a big finish. Throughout the Suite each of the five instrumentalists is featured. The grade of this piece is level 5 (intermediate) for all instruments.Petite Suite for Brass Quintet was composed in 2000 on a commission by the Strombor Brass Quintet of Valencia, Spain. It was recorded by that group on Allegro Records V-3076-2002.  It was also recorded by the Hoodlebug Brass Quintet on Albany Records Troy 1175. He recently retired from Berklee College of Music where he was Professor and Chair of Composition, serving on the faculty from 1979 to 2016. He has written over ninety compositions for orchestra, band, chamber ensembles and soloists. First published in 1850, At the Lamb's High Feast We Sing was one of four of Campbell's hymn texts to be included in Hymns Ancient & Modern (1861), the first standardized and popular hymnal of the Anglican Church.The tune accompanying the text, known as SALZBURG, is attributed to the German composer Jakob Hintze (1622-1702). Its harmonization has long been attributed to J.S. Bach and numbered among his works as BWV 262. Judy Garland and Mickey Rooney sang this as a conversation duet in the 1941 film Babes On Broadway, one of their many screen collaborations. And it's the only song from the film you've ever heard of since. It pops up here and there in movies, and was most famously covered by Frank Sinatra.The lyrics were a product of their times. The original featured the line, Franklin Roosevelt's looks give me a thrill. Sinatra substituted James Durante's looks. Kermit the Frog (his creator, Jim Henson, was behind the curtain) sings this song at the beginning of 1979's The Muppet Movie. It would be nominated for an Oscar for best original song, which subsequent history would indicate it should have won. The honor went to It Goes Like It Goes from the soundtrack of Norma Rae, which hasn't been heard since. The Rainbow Connection, meanwhile, has been covered by just about every singer and group in the universe, just short of the metal rockers. This arrangement is a challenge, although the parts are not technically difficult. I've used stairstep constructions throughout, so a quintet has to be tight and precise to maintain a steady tempo.
