Arranged brass quintet

Lincolnshire Posy is a musical composition by Percy Aldridge Grainger for concert band commissioned in 1937 by the American Bandmasters Association. Considered by John Bird, the author of Grainger's biography, to be his masterpiece, the 16-minute-long work has six movements, each adapted from folk songs that Grainger had collected on a 1905–1906 trip to Lincolnshire, England.

In a similar fashion to these folk songs, many of the movements are in strophic form.

This is my arrangement of  mvt. No.II Harkstow Grange (alternate spelling Horkstow Grange)

In strophic form, in the concert band version the theme is stated by the clarinets and horns at the opening of the movement. Shifting between 44 and 54 time, the movement features a cornet solo, which is often substituted with soprano saxophone.

In my version the opening solo is given to the horn, accompanied by the lower brass.

The cornet solo is played by the 2nd tpt muted.

It is in the original key.

Percy Aldridge Grainge
r’s arrangement of the Scottish song The Caledonian Hunt’s Delight became Ye Banks and Braes O' Bonnie Doon.

The river Doon flows gracefully between the Loch Doon and the Firth of Clyde in Stirlingshire, Scotland.
It was inspired by Robert Burns poem, The Banks of Doon, written in 1783.

The piece was originally scored in 1903 for a chorus of women’s unison voices, accompanied by men’s voices, whistlers, and harmonium or organ at will.

This was one of Grainger’s earliest folk-music arrangements, and it was dedicated to his dear friend Sigurd Fornander.

The setting for band was completed in 1932 (British Folk-Music Setting No. 32).

Arranged standard  brass quintet of 2 tpts, hn, tbn and tba (based on the wind band arrangement).

Composed by Percy Aldridge Grainger. Arranged by Zach Maine. 20th Century,Celtic,Folk,Historic,Irish,Traditional. 10 pages. Zach Maine #954497. Published by Zach Maine (A0.1370106).

This is a brass quintet arrangement of Grainger's Irish Tune from County Derry. Optional instruments may be used for added warmth. The notated pause is optional, but considering this piece has little to no breaks, take that pause and as many pauses as needed for your and your players' chops. The Youtube video is me performing this arrangement in one take for each instrument and as you can tell I ran out of endurance and breath at the end but managed to push through.
