Brass Tasks is a five-movement suite for brass quintet, beginning with the fanfare Wake-up Call.  Air Craft is a slow chorale-like movement with five-four meter and jazz harmony.  Humoreske is a lively rondo in six-eight meter.  The fourth movement, Ballad of the Bells, is a waltz that features flugelhorn and trombone solos on the melody.  The suite ends with Blast of Brass, characterized by a fast tempo, sudden dynamic shifts, and driving rhythms.  Brass Tasks was commissioned by the Gustavus Adolphus College and Mankato State University faculty brass quintet and premiered at Gustavus Adolphus College in 1998.Duration 11 minutes.  Includes alternate Bass Trombone part for Tuba.  Optional Flugelhorn and Cornet in fourth movement.  Optional cup and mica mutes.
