Arranged by S Smith-Masters & Peet du Toit. Christian,Christmas. 11 pages. Peet du Toit #984753. Published by Peet du Toit (A0.1401574). Kum ba yah (Come by here) is an African American spiritual song of disputed origin, but known to be sung in the Gullah culture of the islands off South Carolina and Georgia, with ties to enslaved Central Africans. The song is thought to have spread from the islands to other Southern states and the North, as well as other places in the world. The first known recording, of someone known only as H. Wylie, who sang in the Gullah dialect, was recorded by folklorist Robert Winslow Gordon in 1926. It later became a standard campfire song in Scouting and summer camps and enjoyed broader popularity during the folk revival of the 1950s and 1960s.The song was originally an appeal to God to come and help those in need. In American politics, the song would later become part of a phrase (sing Kumbaya) denoting unrealistic, excessively optimistic compromises. Here is a brilliant arrangement by S Smith-Masters orchestrated for a brass quintet and functional percussion.

Brass Ensemble - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.811069 Composed by Giuseppe Verdi. Arranged by Damiano Drei. Opera,Romantic Period. Score and parts. 16 pages. Gordon Cherry #4853479. Published by Gordon Cherry (A0.811069). Va Pensiero, the great chorus from Verdi's opera Nabucco is also known as The Chorus of the Hebrew Slaves, retelling the biblical story of the Babylonian captivity of the Jewish people after the destruction of the First Temple in Jerusalem in 586 BCE. The music was performed  as a cortege in the streets of Milan after the composer's death. Mr. Drei's beautiful arrangement is appropriate for moderately advanced performers and is about 4 minutes in length. Parts are supplied for C and B-flat Trumpets.

JV MUSIC #3366195. Published by JV MUSIC (A0.722732). Bugle Call Rag Composed by Carey Morgan and Eubie Blake Arranged by Jari VillanuevaScore2 Trumpets in BbHorn in FTromboneTubaOptional Drum Set Eb Alto Horn Substitute part for Horn in FTreble Clef Baritone Substitute part for TromboneJames Hubert Eubie Blake (1887-1983) Blake was born in Baltimore to former slaves, and the only child of 11 that would survive to adulthood. The young Eubie taught himself the organ after his parents put a $75 organ in their home for 25 cents per week (which would take them almost 6 years to pay off). By the age of 15 was playing piano in Baltimore's night clubs, holding a regular job at Agnes Shelton's sporting house. Blake was already an exceptional pianist by the early 1900's, and he had to simplify his music drastically to get it published. Blake was among the pioneers of ragtime, however he was often too far ahead of his time. He released two rags (Charleston Rag and his Baltimore Buzz) in the same year which Scott Joplin released his Maple Leaf Rag. Unfortunately for Blake, the competition was too strong. Part of the reason for Blake's Charleston Rag and his Baltimore Buzz not making the big time may have been due to Blake the progressive nature of his sound. People found it hard to digest his music, especially the publishers. Bugle Call Rag was composed in 1916 with Carey Morgan. It was one of many patriotic selections written by composers during the World War I era. This delightful piece uses bugle calls and quotes There’ll Be A Hot Time In The Old Town Tonight.A retired member of the United States Air Force Band where he served on the Music Production staff (as well as a trumpeter and bugler) and a student of Bill Holcombe, Jari Villanueva continues writing for different ensembles. His arrangements are played by brass quintets all over the country including many military groups. Brass Ensemble - Level 2 - Digital Download SKU: A0.845553 Composed by Traditional. Arranged by Robert Newth. Christian,Classical,Folk,Sacred,Spiritual. Score and parts. 8 pages. Robert Newth #3139501. Published by Robert Newth (A0.845553). This arrangement of the traditional hymn Amazing Grace was inspired by the origins of the lyrics. The words to the song were written by John Newton, an Englishman who was the captain of a slave ship. After a huge storm at sea, his ship began to sink and he called out to God for help. The cargo in the hold shifted and blocked more water from entering the hull. By the time his ship drifted back to land, he had become an evangelical Christian, and from then on, gave up drinking, gambling and profanity. It was during his later life as an Anglican cleric that he wrote these words.
