The introduction uses an imitation format while at a soft expressive feeling. The first section is somewhat straight forward that passes the tune around amongst the various parts while sitting on chordal movement. This format continues on into the next section of the piece with the parts moving in and out of the texture. The third section essentially shows the first trumpet in an obbligato fashion concluding into a Maestoso feel. After several modulations the piece immediately becomes solemn and resolves oh so peacefully.

The second section modulates to a new key all the while using related thematic material for a transition. Then moving back to the original key the piece comes to a bold, solid conclusion.
