Horn,Trombone,Trumpet,Tuba - Level 5 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1158390 Composed by Dr. Daniel N. Thrower. 20th Century,Chamber,Classical,Contemporary,Historic. 34 pages. This piece commemorates the 160th year of the astounding system of stations and riders that was ingeniously devised to quickly deliver mail and other communications from America’s Missouri River frontier to the rapidly growing western territories. The music in this 4½-minute work is rambunctious, rhythmically unpredictable, and yet extremely exciting and listenable to the average audience member. The use of three woodblocks as the only percussion allude strongly to the clopping whirl of horses’ hooves, though not in a rhythmically mimicking manner. The opening motifs immediately develop into a manic ride across the Wild West, and lay the groundwork for all melodic content. These simple motifs smack of cowboy music, subtly borrowed from the movie theme to “Magnificent Seven†composed by Elmer Bernstein. Other influences for this piece include Aaron Copland’s harmonies and wide intervals, and the virtuosic brass band cornet writing of Gustav Holst and Malcolm Arnold. In the style of an operatic three-part overture, the middle slow section memorializes the tragic loss of 16 lives during the Paiute war in the summer of 1860. Being a rider or a station attendant for the Pony Express was perilous on any leg of the trail, but especially during that time in the Nevada Territory. In a very real way, all these men were iconic heroes of the American West.

Brass Quintet Horn,Trombone,Trumpet,Tuba - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1461113 Composed by Wilhelm Gabriel. Arranged by Will Corbin. Holiday,Traditional. 22 pages. Will Corbin #1040022. Published by Will Corbin (A0.1461113). First: Yes, I know there's supposed to be an umlaut. It's a pain to track down on an English system, and the software didn't produce the umlaut A the way it was supposed to. Use your imagination. If you've ever been to the Munich (Munchen, auch mit umlaut) Oktoberfest, this song is everywhere (as it is with most Oktoberfest celebrations everywhere). But it's always a part of the program at the Munich Hofbrauhaus. The song was written in Berlin in 1935. Wilhelm Wiga Gabriel wrote other songs as well, mostly for the Nazis. So he's pretty much written out of history and his work appropriately relegated to the dustbin of the ages.If you need alternative instrumentation, I'm happy to help. Contact me at wilcor@aol.com.

Brass Ensemble - Level 5 - Digital Download SKU: A0.903756 Composed by Alan Edgar. Contemporary. Score and parts. 18 pages. Alan Edgar Ted Moon #3055483. Published by Alan Edgar Ted Moon (A0.903756). I was bemused by the sentimental farewell to the unthinkably horrible weapon, the Avro Vulcan deltawing nuclear bomber, which was operated by the Royal Air Force from 1956 to 1984, which flew over my York St John University Composition and Reflection class in October, 2015 and which was retired on 28th of that month. The four-minute warning was a public alert system conceived by the British Government during the Cold War and operational between 1953 and 1992. The name derived from the approximate length of time from the moment at which a Soviet nuclear missile attack against the United Kingdom could be confirmed and the impact of those missiles on their targets.  3 minutes would have been more realistic, and that is the length of this piece.  Some terms related to the Cold War easily come to mind and are spoken during the piece. I used dissonant serial technique, but people enjoyed this lively fanfare when it was performed by the Orichalc Quintet

Brass Quintet Horn,Trombone,Trumpet,Tuba - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1375583 Composed by Peter Ilyich Tchaikovsky. Arranged by Dennis Wright (Arranger) & Peet du Toit (Orchestrator). Romantic Period. 58 pages. Peet du Toit #960114. Published by Peet du Toit (A0.1375583). The Capriccio Italien, Op. 45, is a fantasy for orchestra composed between January and May 1880 by Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky. It premiered 18 December, 1880 (New System) in Moscow, conducted by Nikolay Rubinstein. The Capriccio was inspired by a trip Tchaikovsky took to Rome with his brother Modest as respite from the composer's disastrous marriage with Antonina Miliukova. It was in Rome, however, that the observant Tchaikovsky called Raphael a Mozart of painting. While in Rome, he wrote to his friend Nadezhda von Meck:I have already completed the sketches for an Italian fantasia on folk tunes for which I believe a good fortune may be predicted. It will be effective, thanks to the delightful tunes which I have succeeded in assembling partly from anthologies, partly from my own ears in the streets. The composer was able to soak up Italian street music and folk songs which he then incorporated into his Capriccio. This enables some bright primary colors and uncomplicated tunefulness..
