The composer is unknown but I have found one source that credits Edward Bohuszewicz (1775-1834)This march is found in the Musicians Companion Volume 1 by Elias Howe, Jr. (1820–1895). published in 1840 arranged for a quintet of keyed bugles, cornopean, trombone, and ophicleide.

This was the first march I arranged for brass quintet, November 2021. This Brass Quintet arrangement was made using “The President’s Own� United States Marine Band’s The Complete Marches of John Philip Sousa score as found at https://www.marineband.marines.mil/Audio-Resources/The-Complete-Marches-of-John-Philip-Sousa/. The Honored Dead was composed in 1876, and the referenced edition was made Public Domain in 2015. The piece is catalogued as Volume 1, No. 2.

Smith wrote De Wash Tub Blues, an excellent example of the downtrodden blues genre. Our arrangement features the French horn heavily in the verse, reserving the trumpets for the chorus, and is decorated with glissandos both in the trombone and first trumpet part.

The Coventry Carol text is based on the Gospel of Matthew (2:16–18) and deals with the Massacre of the Innocents in which Herod the Great, king of Judea, orders the execution of all male children who are two years old and under in the vicinity of Bethlehem.The music tends to use a lot of Picardy Third (the practice of raising the third of a chord at the end of a cadence, and changing the quality of a minor chord to a major chord). I took the Picardy Third thing one step further and modulated to the relative major (Cmaj from Amin), and fanfared on a bright, C major chord -indicating Christ the Savior's successful conquest despite all odds. Then quickly modulate once again to C minor (C major's parallel minor, and up a minor third where the piece started), to bring back the somber feeling the piece is supposed to have.
