Brass Ensemble - Level 5 - Digital Download SKU: A0.811024 Composed by Nicholas Francis. 20th Century,Contemporary,Romantic Period. Score and parts. 55 pages. Gordon Cherry #4728677. Published by Gordon Cherry (A0.811024). Nick Francis is a very talented Canadian composer. His Quintet's 3 movements are fused into a single macro-movement of about 17 minutes in length. The work requires advanced performers with the Trumpet parts being in C. The work opens with a gentle hymn.  The music gradually works itself up into a heroic tune.<P> The second movement begins in the barren wasteland left by the disintegration of the first. After a time, paraphrased fragments of the Anglican seafaring hymn Eternal Father begin emerging. Gradually the earlier wasteland feel begins to bloom, and the movement closes quietly in E major.  The Finale is in two sections. The 2nd section brings the music back to E-flat major, with all of its heroic properties, and heads the quintet towards a thunderous climax followed by a mad gallop to the finish. This music is dedicated with deep gratitude to Nate and to all the members of the Sapphire Brass, without whose confidence in new music it might never have been written.

Brass Quintet Horn,Trombone,Trumpet,Tuba - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1470862 Composed by Oscar Hammerstein and Richard Rodgers. Arranged by Mary Clark. Broadway,Musical/Show,Traditional,Wedding. 22 pages. Second Wind Music #1048484. Published by Second Wind Music (A0.1470862). The Sound of Music recounts the tale of Maria, a postulant sent to care for the seven children of widowed Captain von Trapp in pre-World War II Austria. Maria ends up falling love with the children and their father, choosing to leave the abbey and marry the captain. The family flees to Switzerland as the Nazis annex Austria. The Broadway production of “The Sound of Music” premiered in 1959, followed by a film adaptation in 1965.The Processional and Canticle is from the wedding scene in the stage version of “The Sound of Music”. (The film score version is slightly different and shorter.) In the musical, this piece features a choir of nuns singing, along with the orchestra. This arrangement closely follows the stage production score and the 1959 original Broadway cast recording, which includes the Canticle section (which is not included in the film). This piece can be shortened or lengthened as needed for a particular performance or event, making it ideal for any event that needs a processional or recessional.  There are also two options for ending the piece - a quiet, solemn ending or a reprise of the processional with bolder finish.

Horn,Trombone,Trumpet,Tuba - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1158678 Composed by Dr. Daniel N. Thrower. 20th Century,Chamber,Classical,Historic. 30 pages. Https://gildedmusicpress.com/ #758696. Published by https://gildedmusicpress.com/ (A0.1158678). The opening of this 4-minute piece is dance-like, intimating a celebratory mood up front—alone at first, but shared with the ensemble throughout the piece. After much celebration, the piece ends solemnly, as if giving each other final hugs and good-byes. Every Airman has a story to tell. “Farewell Celebration†is part of my story as an Airman musician. It is a fitting farewell to the Heartland of America Band stationed at Offutt Air Force Base in Bellevue, Nebraska, and to the entire American Midwest, as my family and I finalized our plans to uproot for an extraordinary three-year adventure in Asia. Work on this composition began toward the end of July and beginning of August 2021 as a melody with instructions to be the opening of a brass quintet piece, beginning with trumpet alone. It remained in that state until January 2022 when I entered this sketch into the computer to be worked on sporadically along with several other works in progress. When I contracted Covid-19 in July 2022, all of these works and other incipient pieces received attention, but this one more than most others. In the fall, I felt an urgency to complete it as a sentimental gesture of enthusiastic good-byes due to many life changes taking place. In particular, my fourth son, Paul, was departing for two years for Brazil. I was compelled to complete this work before he left on October 17, 2022, which I accomplished the day prior to his departure. In addition to Paul’s farewell, two co-workers with whom I had worked closely in the Air Force brass quintet called “Offutt Brass,†were also moving on with new exciting chapters in their lives. MSgt Ben Kadow, our fantastic trombonist, had received an assignment to move to Germany, leaving us on November 8. And MSgt Ryan Heseltine, our unparalleled French horn player, retired at the end of the year. On top of all that, in September I was given an assignment to move to Japan the following summer. Some farewells are more difficult to endure than others, though all seem to have varied brands of profound emotion. In contrast to saying good-bye to a loved one who passes away, all of these farewells were joyful, albeit poignant. “Farewell Celebration†is dedicated to my son Paul, to my outstanding professional colleagues, Ben Kadow and Ryan Heseltine, and to all our friends and family members who we left behind as we moved to Japan.

Brass Quintet - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1264704 By Jackie DeShannon. By Burt Bacharach and Hal David. Arranged by Arr. Zack Smith. Pop,Singer/Songwriter,Standards,Wedding. 20 pages. Zack Smith #857535. Published by Zack Smith (A0.1264704). This is an arrangement for brass quintet with an optional drum part.  The chart stays pretty close to the Dionne Warwick version with all the instruments getting a piece of the melody at some point.  I've rated this advanced intermediate because the first trumpet has a written C towards the end, and the french horn part is a bit challenging (but fun).  I also wrote some low tuba notes (it goes down to F# below the staff)-- though they can be played up an octave without messing up the arrangement.  This will be a hit with your older audiences!

Brass Ensemble Euphonium,Horn,Trombone,Trumpet,Tuba - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.929885 By Michael Buble. By Anthony Newley and Leslie Bricusse. Arranged by Noah Allen. Jazz. Score and parts. 24 pages. N.D.A. #4349669. Published by N.D.A. (A0.929885). This new arrangement of the tune made popular by Michael Buble will be an instant hit with your intermediate level brass quintet. A rubato opening gives your trombone player a chance to shine, followed by the classic 12/8 groove we've all come to recognize. Everyone gets a chance at the melody for at least a bit, even the tuba! The first trumpet range goes up to a written high C, with optional lower notes at appropriate points to let your ensemble sound great no matter their ability. Depending on tempo and if the repeat is taken, duration is around 3:15 to 4:15, perfect for a concert closer. Your audience will remember this one for years to come!

Brass Ensemble - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.982207 Composed by Karl King. Arranged by Shawn Postell. 20th Century,Folk,Traditional. Score and parts. 19 pages. Encore Music LLC #6221895. Published by Encore Music LLC (A0.982207). This classic Karl King circus screamer march has been adapted for brass quintet.  The tempo you decide to perform it at  is up to the ability of your group but played at a brisk pace will last about 90 seconds.  Great as an opener, closer or just a change of pace, this arrangement is playable by advanced high school musicians looking for a challenge.  Community brass quintets will find it a challenge but well worth the work and response from the audience.

Brass Quintet Horn,Trombone,Trumpet,Tuba - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1475281 Composed by Giacomo Puccini. Arranged by Cory Mixdorf. 19th Century,Romantic Period. 12 pages. Gordon Cherry #1052825. Published by Gordon Cherry (A0.1475281). Giacomo Puccini composed Crisantemi (Chrysanthemums) for string quartet in one overnight sitting in January of 1890 after hearing of the unexpected death of his close friend Amadeo di Savoia, the former King of Spain. This poignant 6-minute elegy, an early work, soon afterwards shows up in Puccini's first great opera, Manon Lescaut. The white chrysanthemum is traditionally brought to the cemetery to mourn loved ones in Italy and other European countries.Appropriate for moderately advanced performers and beautifully scored by Cory Mixdorf for brass quintet of 2 Trumpets in B-flat, Horn, Trombone and Tuba.

Brass Quintet Bass Trombone,Horn,Trumpet,Tuba - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1472617 Composed by Bill Conti. Arranged by Mary Clark. Classical,Film/TV. 11 pages. Second Wind Music #1050268. Published by Second Wind Music (A0.1472617). “Philadelphia Morning” is a powerfully expressive composition that sets the tone for a scene early in the movie Rocky when the main character has just found out the he will get to fight the world champion boxer and sets out for a training run in the gritty city streets of Philadelphia at 4 a.m. on a dark, cold, dreary winter day. (click here to see a clip of this scene from the movie) This beautifully written piece is penetrating and pensive in describing the battle within, the solitude of it, the impossibility at hand, and generally, the struggle involved in pushing oneself. There is a powerful but subtle orchestration here; the sound of a kind of musical undertow — an undertow that is pulling our hero down, as if giving him leaden legs, or of running in quicksand. But there is also a twinkle of possibility.  At the end, the [music] trails off and there is uncertainty in the air.” [From:  Jack Doyle, “Philadelphia Morning: 1976-1977,” PopHistoryDig.com, March 25, 2015.]This brass quintet arrangement of Philadelphia Morning would work well as a short concert piece that showcases the expressive qualities of the French horn as well as that of the whole ensemble. This piece has a quiet, pensive, somewhat moody tempermanent. While this arrangement is not technically challenging (other than the range for the horn part noted below), the lean scoring and soft dynamics requires the ensemble to pay close attention to balance and play as one in style, tone quality, and expressiveness.  Phrases passing from one player to another need to flow as if being played on a piano.  The expressive opening eight-bar horn solo, which is a direct transcription from the movie score, is mostly unaccompanied and ranges up to a high b-flat so a strong, confident horn player is needed – but they will surely enjoy playing this elegantly written passage.  (The film soundtrack recording features Vincent DeRosa on horn.)    The bass trombone part can be played on a tuba.

Published by Thiago Osorio Music (A0.946688). ''Juntinho'' (in english: ''close together'') is a Baião inspired by couples dancing at forró parties, the proximity of their bodies and their synchronized movements are characteristic of the dance of this genre. In this version for the brass quintet, the rhythmic and harmonic elements were explored so that the entire dance scene is composed in the mind of the listener. A composition full of balance and joy to broaden and liven up your quintet's repertoire.

Brass Quintet Horn,Trombone,Trumpet,Tuba - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1302282 Composed by John Philip Sousa. Arranged by Betsy Bright. 20th Century,March,Patriotic,Standards. 16 pages. Bright Music Company #891894. Published by Bright Music Company (A0.1302282). This John Philip Sousa march is just as exciting as his more famous marches, but it seems to be less well-known. A great way to include a Sousa march on a program while also playing music the audience may not have heard before.  Conveniently, this march is less than 2 minutes long, so you can close out your program with a march without taking up too much of the program time.As with all Bright Music Company arrangements, this march has plenty of rest for the higher brass.Duration: 1.5 minutesDifficulty level: 4 (advanced intermediate).
