It is in A-B-A format beginning with a lively, rhythmic melody in mixed meter which is passed around the group.  The B section features a lyrical Trombone solo and 2nd Trumpet.  The A section comes back to life and finishes off a most delightful work. This work is written for advanced performers at about 4 1/2 minutes in length and will work very well in a recital or concert.

It's built on John LaBarbera's down-tempo ballad version for the Buddy Rich big band. Trombonists know this one for two features: a gorgeous but challenging bass 'bone solo, and a tricky but gorgeous 'bone section soli. When I figured out what the tune was, I was driven to arrange it for our quintet. The result is at least good for one illustration: If you thought you needed drums for calypso or Latin, think again. Horns work pretty well.Jazz tenor sax great Sonny Rollins wrote this, mostly as a vehicle for improvisation. It's based on a Bahamian folk melody called Sponger Money, which may or may not be based on a British folk song called The Lincolnshire Poacher. Whatever the case, it's a variation on a song Rollins' mother sang to him when he was a child in the Virgin Islands.This arrangement -- not as easy to play as it looks, because of the rhythms -- is for two trumpets, horn, trombone and tuba. The song has been covered by David Bowie, Eric Clapton and Michael Bolton, among many others.
