The official anthem of the Canary Islands, arranged for Brass Quintet & Percussion.A region of Spain, the anthem used in the Canaries for official local occasions was introduced on May 30 (Canary Islands Day), 2003. It is an adaptation of a local folk song called Arrorró (Lullaby).Before the official announcement of the anthem unofficial local songs were in place, and tended to differ depending on the person’s political beliefs. Published by BBQ Editions (A0.923891). This chorale for brass quintet is a showcase for the 1st trumpeter, with several solo passages, and a soaring descant in the final passage. The piece is based on a line from Psalm 31, variously translated as Into your hands I commend my spirit or Father, I put my life in Your hands. The central musical theme is extrapolated from a basic melodic idea originally intended to be sung by a cantor. While it may be played year-round, In Your Hands makes an especially fitting selection during the Easter season.In Your Hands was composed by Bedford Brass Quintet trumpeter Paul St-Amand in memory of his father, Gerry. The piece was premiered at Harmony & Hope: A Concert for Cancer Research in 2015.Performance time is approx. 4:30.

This selection, Johann Pachelbel's celebrated Canon, is perhaps the most famous canon ever written and has been one of my favorite compositions to arrange. A canon is a polyphonic device in which several voices play the same music, entering in sequence. Pachelbel's Canon, was originally written in the key of D Major and was scored for three violins arranged in canon, accompanied by a basso continuo which repeats the same harmonic progression throughout the entire piece. The common musical term for this is ostinato or ground bass. Regis Bookshar has now arranged this music for a Brass Quintet consisting of three Trumpets and 2 Trombones. The three Trumpets play the melody in canon while the ostinato accompaniment is played by the two Trombones. This arrangement is suitable for high school and college students but could also be performed by professional performers. It is perfect for concerts and church services, especially for Weddings, but could be performed for any occasion. Included are a score and a complete set of parts (30 pages). This version is written in the key of Bb Major, to make it a little easier for some younger performers, but another version is also available in the key of D Major if you would prefer.
