Brass Quintet Horn,Trombone,Trumpet,Tuba - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1459173 Composed by Consuelo Velazquez. Arranged by Will Corbin. Latin,Pop. 20 pages. Will Corbin #1038143. Published by Will Corbin (A0.1459173). Mexican songwriter Consuelo Velazquez wrote Besame Mucho, words and music, in 1941. When she died in 2005, The New York Times said this of the song in her obituary: 'Bésame Mucho' is not so much an enduring standard as a global phenomenon. Translated into dozens of languages and performed by hundreds of artists, the song has been an emblem of Latin identity, an anthem of lovers separated by World War II and perennial grist for lounge singers everywhere. Virtually every professional recording musician has covered it, from the Beatles to Placido Domingo. This arrangement borrows its 6/4 time signature (and not much more) from the 2001 recording by Maynard Ferguson and Diane Schuur. It's a little more accessible than Ferguson's screaming big band chart. This one is for two trumpets, horn, trombone and tuba. If you need alternative instrumentation, I'm happy to accommodate. Brass Quintet Horn,Trombone,Trumpet,Tuba - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1458413 Composed by Spencer Williams. Arranged by Will Corbin. Blues,Historic,Jazz. 22 pages. Will Corbin #1037395. Published by Will Corbin (A0.1458413). Basin Street sits on the edge of the French Quarter of New Orleans. A few years before this song was written, it served as the border of a red-light district known as Storyville. A city councilman named Sidney Story came up with the idea of creating a district to which prostitution would be limited, where it could be watched and regulated. So The District was created in 1897; it soon became known as Storyville, much to the chagrin of Councilman Story. During its 20-year official life, a visitor could buy a blue book for two bits that listed prostitutes alphabetically and by race and address. It was abolished in 1917 during World War I because it violated a rule that no house of prostitution could be within 5 miles of a military base. The Navy wanted its sailors pure of heart. It's also a place where jazz grew up. The bordellos hired musicians to entertain customers, who weren't particularly interested in the music. So the mostly black performers were free to experiment, to try new syncopated rhythms, to blend the sounds of African drums and plantation gospel to come up with what would become known as Dixieland music. Storyville (it would later mostly be razed for public housing, and still later begin to gentrify as property values rose) was where Spencer Williams wrote the song in 1928; Louis Armstrong, who spent some of his childhood nearby, first recorded it in 1928. It has since been recorded by dozens of other artists. If you need alternative instrumentation, I'm happy to accommodate. Contact me at wilcor@aol.com.

Brass Quintet Horn,Trombone,Trumpet,Tuba - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1459167 Composed by Bill Danzeisen. Arranged by Will Corbin. Broadway,Latin,Musical/Show,Pop. 24 pages. Will Corbin #1038137. Published by Will Corbin (A0.1459167). A song doesn't get more traveled than this one. American Cole Porter wrote it in 1935 while on a South Pacific cruise between Indonesia and Fiji aboard a British liner. Its roots are in a Latin dance from the French Caribbean islands of Guadeloupe and Martinique. So it's somewhere between a minuet and a samba. The name of the dance, beguine, is Creole (probably pejorative) for white woman. The song was first performed in a Broadway musical called Jubilee. It didn't get much traction until Artie Shaw recorded it with his big band, in a purely swing mode, in 1938; it became the 3rd best-selling recording of the year and set off a new dance craze. Check out the drummer in the YouTube video of Shaw's band performing the song, with special attention to the drummer. It's a young and relatively quite subdued Buddy Rich. This arrangement, for two trumpets, horn, trombone and tuba, sticks pretty close to a Latin feel except for a swing break in the middle. If you need alternative instrumentation, I'm happy to help. Brass Quintet Horn,Trombone,Trumpet,Tuba - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1460714 By ABBA. By Benny Andersson, Bjorn Ulvaeus, and Stig Anderson. Arranged by Will Corbin. Pop. 21 pages. Will Corbin #1039621. Published by Will Corbin (A0.1460714). ABBA singer Frida Lyngstad first recorded Fernando, named for a bartender at a joint the band frequented, as a solo performance in Swedish. ABBA recorded it a year later, and it became one of their biggest hits, selling 6 million singles in 1976 alone; it was for two decades the holder of the record for time at No. 1 in Australia. This treatment runs a little long; it can be shortened by a minute or so by jumping past the mostly repeated second portion directly to the ending measures (you can figure out where to make the hop).If you need alternative instrumentation, I'm happy to help.
