Guitar - Level 3 - Digital Download

SKU: A0.1356984

Composed by Fernando Sor. Arranged by Brian Streckfus. 19th Century,Classical,Instructional,Romantic Period. Guitar Tab. 3 pages. Brian Streckfus #941611. Published by Brian Streckfus (A0.1356984).

Pages: 3
Key: B minor

Features:
1. Tablature Added
2. Blank version for starting from scratch
3. Chord Nomenclature added
4. Dynamics added
5. Fingerings Added
6. Slides/Guide fingers added
7. Modern FontsĀ

Tips:Ā
1. Realizing that you are in position two most of the time helps. In the key of B minor, fret 1s aren't supposed to happen as they would be out of key. This piece does have key changes, so some fret 1s do happen.
2. Nearly all measures are arpeggios, so it's best to summarize each measure as a chord shape. If you read the music one note at a time, your playing will most likely sound choppy. It is possible to get the entire measure ready on beat one.
3. Similiar to the last point, there are a lot of bars in this piece. Realizing when you are barring and not barring will be helpful.
4. I try to strategically leave out fingerings. Too many fingerings and the piece look overly intimidating. Often, if I leave out a fingering, it's because it is a counter-intuitive fingering to use, and therefor the student should pencil it in themselves as a strong reminder of a difficult moment. I also leave out fingerings if I strongly sense there are multiple correct ways of playing a passage.

By Frederic Chopin. By FreĢdeĢric Chopin. Arranged by Brian Streckfus. 19th Century,Classical,Contemporary,Instructional,Romantic Period. Guitar Tab. 6 pages. Brian Streckfus #776814. Published by Brian Streckfus (A0.1177383).

Key: Changed from B minor to A minor
Capo: 2 (If you want original key, but I wasn't a fan of capo 2; it felt like there was no bass notes.)

1. Arranged for guitar.
2. Piano pedal markings removed
3. Phrase markings removed and opted for commas.
4. Re-harmonized
5. Key changed from B minor to A minor.
6. Slurs
7. Left hand fingers
8. Tablature
9. Harmonics added when advantageous, but playing the regular note would work as well.
10. Piano pedal markings removed and replaced with commas. It's a flaw of sheet music that slurs, ties, and phrase markings are all the same symbol, and having all three happening can clutter a score.

Compromises

  1. This may sound obvious, but of course I had to make some alterations to make this flow properly on guitar. Many of the original chord inversions on the piano were not kept. However, many harmonies were kept intact as far as following the chord nomenclature name.
  2. Measure 50 was originally an A minor chord, the irony is that the F major suprise is an homage to Chopin anyways, suprised he didn't opt for it. To be honest, I don't like how there is a perfect authentic cadence in measure 50. I think modern audiences would want to clap too badly, so I believe that ending needs to be slightly messed up to propel the music forward, and give a sense that there is still a problem.
  3. The other chord that was changed was an E7b9 to a Ddim7 in measure 78. If you know your theory well, you'll realize these chords have the same exact function and nearly the same notes, it's just that Ddim7 flowed a bit better on guitar. I'd rather have guitarists play the rhythms correctly and with musicality, than have guitarist clunkily go though overly large chords in order to mantain historical accuracy.Ā
  4. Measure 15 was hard to keep the original chord intact. A Bb/D with a G in the melody as a suspension sounds more like a g minor chord. That is cliche Chopinesque neopolitan moment so the Bb is crucial to mantain. Having some rough sort of Bbmaj7 or G minor chord while mantaining the melody seemed to sound the best even though the name of the chord might have gotten a little off.

I tried chord charts, but they seemed messier than what it was worth. I also could have the denser tablature in the sheet music, but that does make it look 10x more intimidating. So this version is unique in that the tablature is my denser arrangement, whereas the sheet music would allow someone to quickly make a new arrangement. I like this ethos because most guitarists are likely to be much better at playing chord quickly when they don'tĀ have to have an exact voicing. This makes this arrangement easier to further perfect since I am naming the harmonies, which often isn't done in classical music.

Backstory
This is one of my favorite pieces, and also my favorite composer. I feel classical guitar repertoire is lacking easily playable music in the romantic style. Often, if it is romantic guitar music, it is extemely difficult and therefore only a select few can enjoy performing it. Also, I sometimes get my hopes up to find a romantic guitar composer, but then after listening, there's nothing quite like Chopin. Obviously, you will have to have some chops to play this since it's one of the most ambitious undertakings a guitarist could take, but it's also not so hard that you have to be train for a decade because I changed the key.

Easy Guitar (with TAB) - Level 1 - Digital Download

SKU: A0.1177429

Major/Minor/Pentatonic Forms for Guitar (Sheet Music + Tab + Fretboard)

Learn every key on guitar with very few pages.Ā
Pages: 13

Bonus Pages:
1. A Major Scale across the full neck (to see how they all combine resulting in knowing the full neck)
2. Blank scale chart to add in memorization and making alterations.

Scales included:
1. F Major
2. C Major
3. G Major
4. D Major
5. A Major

Tips:
1. There is a reason why it is not 12 or 24 scales. Since these scales are easy to move higher or lower, just these 5 Major will lead to all 24 major/minor keys throughout the entire fretboard. Therefore, making a C# Major scale chart is uneccessary, and if you are doing so, you may be over thinking music. Instead, it is better to ask yourself how do I play C major but 1 pitch higher and use previous work you have done to your advantage.Ā
2. These scales do not end on the home note. This is a disadvantage in this way, however, knowing large portions of the scale neck in one position will allow you to play a key throughout the fretboard with no gaps in notes. In otherwords, learning one ocatave scales can have concise music theory, but it's impossible to know the scale in every part of the neck completely that way.Ā

Features:
1. Color coding. Blue notes are home (tonic) notes. Red notes are away (dominant) notes. Simplifying harmony this much can often make you more creative not less since you are crafting the harmonies yourself.Ā
2. Left hand fingerings added. Don't mistake these for fingering numbers.
3. Letter names to aid in memorization.

Notes:
I realize that the hand written font doesn't look the most professional, however this is intentional. I tried making these in photo editors, but since every shape was perfect they were actually harder to memorize from (kind of living driving in a tunnel with no landmarks).

By Alan R Thompson. By Alan R Thompson. Arranged by Alan R Thompson. Blues,Classical,Jazz,Pop,Rock. Guitar Tab. 936 pages. Alan R Thompson #755871. Published by Alan R Thompson (A0.1155573).

Guitar Tablature and sheet music version of Thompson's Structured Guide by key / relative modes. This book represents an invitation for you to explore part of the vast universe of melodic and harmonic musical options. This ā€œSTRUCTURED GUIDEā€ will provide building blocks for the creation of original music, be useful in increasing technical proficiency in your instrument of choice, improve your sight-reading skills and help you develop a better ear for music. This book lists in standard sheet music notation over 75 scales (and their Relative Modes) and over 75+ associated chords organized in each of the 12 Key Signatures (or enharmonic equivalent keys) found in Western Music. Note that the sheet music in this book is organized by Key Signature (Relative Modes) and not by Tonic/Tonal Center (Parallel Modes) as in separate book. This organization helps promote a more fluid approach for improvising without need for excessive mental calculations to transpose keys as you're playing. Each Key Signature Section is 76 pages of sheet music, which could take several hours to play depending on how familiar you are with the material and how much you improvise thereon. Scales and Modes listed include the Major, Natural Minor, Harmonic Minor, Melodic Minor, Melodic Minor Ascending/Natural Minor Descending, Lydian Diminished/Lydian b3, Whole Tone, Octatonic/Diminished and Chromatic Scales. Also, numerous Bebop and Pentatonic Scales (traditional & exotic), Augmented, Double Harmonic Scales and numerous unique non-standard Scales are referenced, etc. Chords from triads up to 13ths are presented in arpeggiated & as well as block format with inversions, along with SCALE SUGGESTIONS for these chords. Composed by Michael J. Anthony. Scales, Arpeggios, Technique, Style. Jazz and Contemporary. E-book. Mel Bay Publications - Digital Sheet Music #30510EB. Published by Mel Bay Publications - Digital Sheet Music (M0.30510EB).

ISBN 9781619115484. 8.75x11.75 inches.

In this comprehensive book jazz guitarist Michael Anthony addresses the need to build flexibility and technical proficiency in a way consistent with the melodic motifs of contemporary music. Though the warm-ups are numbered, there is no order that must be followed. The guitarist may approach them according to his or her interest and inspiration. They include: arpeggios, scale patterns, melodic minor forms, chord-melody groups, stretching and contrary motion, double-stops, octave displacement, walking bass with comping, two line phrases, 'out of the box' geometric shapes, overlapping rhythms, long arpeggios and diminished scale patterns. The finish line exemplifies arpeggios outlining I-VI-II-V7 progressions in major and minor. In the words of Michael Anthony, I find that isolation of the right and left hand is useful, but ultimately it is the timing and coordination of the two that is necessary. The benefits of these warm-ups are threefold: 1. Technical improvement. 2. Fingerboard knowledge. 3. Ear training. Written in notation and tablature.

Composed by Brian Streckfus. Instructional,Singer/Songwriter. Tablature. 6 pages. Brian Streckfus #954402. Published by Brian Streckfus (A0.1370027).

I created this to make learning the most common chords on guitar easier. Learning chords on guitar is quite difficult; fret numbers are quite arbitary to what the chord is. There are patterns to follow, but they are buried in a convoluted foggy swamp. The tuning of guitar strings essentially puts the music theory in a blender and one has to study for a long time to decode it. It is my hope that this PDF will shine some light on how chords are built, and why some of them have a lot of clarity in how they are working, and why others seem completely random. This PDF shows chords that commonly happen in pop music, so it is by no means an exhaustive list.Ā

For knowing howĀ to use chords, see my chord progression generator uploads.

Tips:
1. There is redundacy for a reason; this pdf shows multiple ways of playing the same chord.
2. The first two pages are for the music theory purists in that there is hardly ever an uneccesary note to mantain the name of the chord. This is useful for understanding what notes are needed for a chord (it's a cliche for guitarists to have overly large chords).
3. Pages 3 and 4 are the famous voicings.Ā
4. Pages 5 and 6 are the bar chord versions. These versions are physically harder to play, but they can add a lot of clarity and simplicity to your playing (the famous voicings on pages 3 and 4 are seemingly random). They are much easier to slide to any key you want and much easier to see similiarities and patterns between chords.
