ApproachFor it to fall well under the fingers on guitar I have changed the arpeggio pattern. For example, on the opening C chord, instead of the original intervals of 1, 3, 5, 8, 10, 5, 8, 10, I use 1, 5, 8, 1, 10, 1, 5, 8, which I feel makes the low end work better on guitar and also allows for more natural guitar chord shapes throughout. Chord symbols and tab has been included alongside standard guitar notation. It has been notated as fast 8ths instead of 16ths to make it appear less daunting to learners.Practice suggestionLearn the right hand arpeggio pattern on the first C chord: p i m p a p i m. This will give you the pattern for most of the following chords.Learn a few bars from the beginning, then learn the last few bars after it breaks from the arpeggio pattern. A second version of this piece minus the “Prelude� and with additional instrumentation and soundscapes appears on Keith’s 2016 album Space and Time. For many, Thanksgiving marks the beginning of the Christmas season and a song with that title seems a fitting way to open an album of music celebrating the season. This PDF includes detailed fingerings in standard notation with tablature for ease of learning.

Bach's Cello Suite No. 1 Prelude, arranged for solo classical guitar. This arrangement involved careful editing of essential elements of the Cello Suite Prelude (not the entire piece), tuning the guitar's 5th and 6th strings down a whole step, and adjusting harmonies of the Cello Suite to match Happy Birthday, still retaining Bach's compositional style.  It's an intermediate level classical fingerstyle, similar in difficulty to the Sor Etudes. Hungarian pianist Stephen Heller (1813 - 1888) was a highly regarded performer, composer, and teacher during the height of the Romantic Era and closely acquainted with many of the greats of that time including Berlioz, Chopin and Lizst. He was a prolific composer for the piano writing many hundreds of pieces which remain popular to this day with teachers and students alike. The two pieces presented here were arranged for guitar and recorded in 2004 as part of Keith’s album entitled Nocturne, Music of the Romantics. And while Heller didn’t write these pieces to necessarily be played together, the common key of E minor and contrasting tempi make for a nice recital pairing. There’s also a version available with TAB on this site.
