Fourteen year old Joseph Smith went into a grove of trees to pray and ask God for help to know which church was true, and which one he should join. God and His son Jesus Christ appeared to him and spoke to him face to face. With the appearance of God and His son to the boy Joseph Smith, there was once again a prophet on the earth. This event came to be called the first vision. This vision proved to Joseph Smith that God is not dead. God and His son Jesus Christ are alive and love us today. They have not left us alone here in the world to work out our own salvation. The greatest teachers and preachers of our times cannot save us for they are subject to death. Only Jesus Christ could and did break the bands of death. God talks to us today through His prophets. He does not speak to us through those who say He is gone and has left them in charge. The only way to find truth about God is to study His doctrine and then talk with Him. Ask Him if what you are learning is true. With 4,300 Christian religions on the earth today, we can know through revelation from God which is His true church. There can be only one. God told Joseph that He had a great work for him to do. God sent an angel who revealed to Joseph plates of gold. These plates of Gold were records kept by Israelite prophets in ancient America. God brought them to this land of promise before the Jews were carried away captive into Babylon. I know this is true. You can read the Book of Mormon. You can ask God for yourself if it is true. Then you too can know, for God will answer your prayer.

These Are Soulful Days is a jazz standard by Cal Massey.
On this 1973 date, organist Don Patterson and guitarist Pat Martino again show themselves to be equally at home with gritty, organ combo sounds and the more refined vocabulary of hard bop. Brothers Jimmy Heath (tenor sax) and Albert Heath (drums) round out the band. They are bop-oriented players who also have an affinity for the Patterson and Martino blend of brains and barbecue sauce.
The quartet comes together nicely on all five tracks, beginning with the long, melodic line of Cal Massey's mid-tempo title track.

This is an arrangement of the Sarabande from Bach's Cello Suite III BWV 1009. It is considered a Grade 6 piece by ABRSM. Notation, tab and chord symbols are included plus the original cello score for comparison.

Origin and additions

This has been built from scratch using original cello score sources but transposed to G Major for guitar. Where possible, additional chord notes have been added up to 5 strings. 

Additional bass notes have been added to get a richer cello-like range, in particular E bass note added in bars 13-14 and octave lower bass notes added to bar 15, an A bass note added to bar 18.

A transcription of the original cello score is included for comparison and understanding of the additions. This allows a player to create their own alternatives if desired. 

Approach to performing

Listen to cellists such as Yo-Yo Ma and Rostropovich performing this piece to get a sense of it's slow, majestic nature on the original instrument. On guitar we can't get the length of expression on a single string but we can use dynamics and space.

If the additional bass notes are excluded, it can also be played with a plectrum.
