This is a mash-up of the traditional Happy Birthday melody superimposed over J.S. Bach's Cello Suite No. 1 Prelude, arranged for solo classical guitar. This arrangement involved careful editing of essential elements of the Cello Suite Prelude (not the entire piece), tuning the guitar's 5th and 6th strings down a whole step, and adjusting harmonies of the Cello Suite to match Happy Birthday, still retaining Bach's compositional style.  It's an intermediate level classical fingerstyle, similar in difficulty to the Sor Etudes. About the Arranger

Leigh Collins is a guitarist and composer based on the Mornington Peninsula outside of Melbourne, Australia. Leigh currently works as a music transcriptionist and study material designer at music education website, Pickup Music.

Leigh’s dedication to the instrument has seen him achieve a Masters of Music from The University of Melbourne. In 2018, Leigh had the opportunity to perform at the Melbourne International Jazz Festival as a member of contemporary jazz ensemble Prickly Pear.

In September 2019, Leigh released his debut album, Here’s Why, recorded live at Sing Sing East alongside Lawson Kennard (bass) and Daniel McKoy (drums). The album consists of original instrumental compositions drawing inspiration from jazz harmony and folk melodies, underpinned by blues articulations and phrasing.

Bach's classic Bourrée in E minor arranged for guitar in a jazz-swing-blues style, with walking bass lines on guitar, melody figures swung, and harmonic passages adapted towards a cool jazz and bluey idiom. It's actually a bit more difficult than the original--because the swung melody and bass lines are syncopated rather than matched... but it is very cool and fun to play, and a great showpiece for an intermediate level guitarist! Brad studied from and was mentored by jazz guitar giant Joe Pass, and took a master class from Andrés Segovia, so this arrangement bridges both musical worlds--jazz and classical--that he came up in.

This arrangement of the classic folk song This Train Is Bound For Glory is for two guitars and is in standard notation with tablature. The difficulty levels of the parts are interchangeable so each player can perform each part. It's a good addition to a student's ensemble repertoire or as a piece for a student and teacher. This edition is in the key of D Major.
