The tune, though, is unfingered - there is a compromise between the short reach in high positions and the extra height of the action - you may prefer to stay up the neck, or you may wish to move up and down - please add fingering and position changes where you wish. And add slurs too, if these improve the flow of the music.Here and there, I have deliberately “respelled� some of the accidentals in a way that hopefully improves overall readability, and sometimes the two parts have two representations of the same note at the same time.A version of this was played by the Hampshire Guitar Orchestra who also managed to find time to mop their brows in the occasional pauses in the action.I hope you enjoy playing this piece! Bach Prelude from BWV998 for 2 GUITARSFor Classical or Acoustic Guitar - sometimes it's erroneously listed here as Electric Guitar.Derek Hasted writes This wonderfully lyrical Bach Prelude is one of the most famous preludes to fit onto guitar.I hope you’ll find it’s also one of the best to fit onto two guitars!The original was in the key of Eb major and the facsimile score I used as the basis for my arrangement was for keyboard. I’ve simply taken all the original music and split it across two guitars in the key of D, to give a wonderful stereo effect and to make the phrases stand out. The original had very specific rests in the bass lines which are pretty much automatic on a harpsichord with limited sustain, and quite easy to do on a modern piano. For a guitar, the mix of open and stopped strings can make consistent note lengths quite hard to achieve, and I have included a second arrangement in which the bass notes are notated as ringing on (as indeed most solo guitarists do, starting with the first note of the piece!). It’s an unusual and delightful piece that makes a refreshing and unexpected concert item.There’s plenty of interest for both players, as the tune moves between the two guitarists.I’ve fingered some of the more complex chord shapes, mainly as an aide-memoire, because the key signature and the accidentals combine to make some of the chords hard to read - for example there are F major and F# minor arpeggios looking (at first sight) identical on the page. Some of the more complex chromatic movement is actually gloriously straightforward because of the way I’ve arranged the music to use shapes that slide down the neck. One version is tune and accompaniment, and is ideal for a Student/Teacher pairing, or a duo with an early intermediate and an intermediate player. The other version swaps roles halfway through, so the parts are both intermediate. I’ve made a significant change to the key here, but that allows the guitar to produce a haunting first verse where a stopped B and an open B ring through each other to generate a smoothness of accompaniment that is sublime and mimics the reverberant piano of the original.The arpeggio patterns here match closely those of the original piano too, giving verses 1 and 2 quite different texture. Sadly there is no orchestra and massed choir to build this version in the way that the original does, but the dynamics on the score tie in with the original song.The guitar parts here are in “score and tab� and in “score alone� - there is no difference in the music, but the tab may help notation readers see how the opening section sits on the neck of the guitar.I hope you enjoy playing this piece!

Guitar 1 ventures up the neck, but it's such a slow piece that this is really straightforward. The second is call and response where the two parts swap over at the major phrase boundaries, so that each player has a chance to play the tune and to play the accompaniment...Just choose the version that works best for you!This would be great in a school concert, but also an adult ensemble would find it a crowd-pleaser that takes little effort to perform!I hope you enjoy this piece!

AS LONG AS HE NEEDS ME (Oliver) - GUITAR DUETFor Classical or Acoustic Guitar - sometimes it's erroneously listed here as Electric Guitar.This poignant yet uplifting piece is from the stage show & film Oliver and is another fine example of Lionel Bart's craftsmanship with melody.Derek Hasted writes This makes a delightful 'quiet piece' in a concert - many of the audience will know the music and my arrangement has been crafted to make an accessible duet that generates rich chords without complexity - the work is split across the players.The first guitar part goes high up the neck, but the music is slow and the shapes are straightforward. The second guitar part requires the 6th string to be tuned down to D and there are a couple of chords that require three fingers to be placed simultaneously, but there are lots of open strings throughout the piece that help improve the sustain and flow. The bottom D provides real depth to this piece and the sound is full and lush for minimal effort.
