Jazz Ensemble Jazz Ensemble - Level 4 - Digital Download

SKU: A0.746167

By The Clash. By Joe Strummer and Mick Jones. Arranged by Michael Pilley. Jazz. Score and parts. 51 pages. Michael Pilley Music #3535709. Published by Michael Pilley Music (A0.746167).

Written specifically for Swing Punks, the amazing London big band who play punk tunes in a jazz style, this vocal arrangement has all the bells and whistles. Starting in a bluesy swing style, see if you can pick up all the quotes as you progress through the chart. When it kicks into double time, it'll get your audiences toes tapping just enough for you to snap them back to a languid blues atmosphere. With an open solo section this chart comes alive, allowing for soloists to take the tune where they want to. Double time ensues after that, with a big ending to finish this cracking chart.

THE SONG

Released in 1981, Should I Stay became The Clash's only UK number 1 single, albeit 10 years after in a reissued single. It made 228 in Rolling Stones Top 500 and features Spanish backing vocals, in a strange twist.

THE BAND

Swing Punks (www.swingpunks.com) are an exciting big band based in London, UK who take the best punk music and turn it into swinging big band music. Featuring 3 vocalists and a full complement of horns, their shows are full of energy and pizzazz. I've been lucky enough to play with them a few times since moving closer to London, and I always enjoy mixing it up with such great musicians.

Composed by Marlena Shaw. Arranged by Musicscorz. Hip-Hop,Pop,R & B. Score and parts. 100 pages. Musiscorz #399205. Published by Musiscorz (A0.792025).

An amazing Soulful song by Marlena Shaw which my band has performed for 10 years and the most recent arrangement done in 2021. Rhythm section parts are transcribed for those that find it difficult to comp/read chords and improvise. To recreate the original track as closely as possible there are 4 keyboard parts that cover much of the production on the original. With Hammond organ, electric piano and a keyboard strings part. In addition this arrangement has my line up using saxophones but I have re-arranged those parts for Brass too. There is also parts for live strings in a quartet format with a score and can be expanded to a large ensemble giving a full sound. Also included is a score for lead vocals and backing and piano for rehearsal purposes. Band Lineup: Solo Vocal & 3 BV's, 3 Alto Saxophones, 2x Tenor Saxophones, Bari Saxophone, Trumpets x 3, French Horn, Trombone, Tuba, Keys 1 - Organ/Electric Piano , Keys 2 - Organ/Electric Piano, Nord Electric - Strings, Micro Korg - Fender Rhodes & Hammond Organ, Electric Guitar, Electric Bass, Drums, Tambourine, Hand Claps, String section.

Composed by Roger Aldridge. Contemporary,Jazz. Score and parts. 10 pages. Roger Aldridge #441219. Published by Roger Aldridge (A0.979653).

Shifting time funk (for 5 wind instruments and rhythm section)! The title expresses my disdain for contending with monster SUVs when driving on Connecticut Avenue in Washington, DC. As I envision this music, it is funky and adventurous. The piece is a minimalist composition -- the melody is only 16 bars. However, it has expanded improvisation concepts for the soloist and the ensemble. The ensemble's collective improvisation is to sound like music coming out of car windows in traffic. The sounds change quickly. Different kinds of music come, go, and overlap. Radios (or electronics) may be used for additional layers of sound. The soloists use four chord progression patterns. Each soloist determines which patterns to play and their sequence. The patterns can be played in any order. Ideally, the patterns are determined within a performance instead of before. The soloist communicates the patterns, and when to shift to a new pattern, to the ensemble by hand signals. The ensemble (including horn players) can improvise backgrounds and interactions with the soloist. Music styles can also shift within a solo. Performers can take the music in any creative direction they want to go with it. Note: There are differences between the score and the demo recording. The small group recording was made (from a lead sheet) several years before my mid-size ensemble score was written. For this new recording, the horn parts from my score were added to the earlier recording. The video syncs the pages of the score with the recording as closely as possible.
