CLAIRE’S DILEMMA is an original composition for big band and featured as a set piece for the 2004 Australian Academy Festival of Music A Grade Jazz Ensemble division. It is a lively, up-tempo number that gives the ensemble a good workout. Featuring a catchy melody and bop-style figures that will keep the sax and trumpet sections on their toes. The solo sections, loosely based on 'Rhythm changes, provide space for the 1st Trombone, 1st Tenor Sax, 1st Alto Sax and 2nd Trumpet players. While players should be encouraged to develop their own solos, written suggestions have been included on separate sheets and may be used to provide a starting point for less experienced improvisers. The chart features a dynamic, Basie-style shout chorus providing the perfect opportunity to show off a tight and exciting ensemble sound. It has been recorded by many other artists and remains an enduring part of The Great American Songbook.  My SATB arrangement of the song is a personal best seller for me. This arrangement for full orchestra and chorus enhances the original SATB and adds a new dimension to the beauty of the song.
