Samba Ke Aloha is an original medium tempo Samba in verse-chorus form at Grade 3 (Medium) level, suitable for high school and advanced junior high jazz ensembles. It features trumpet, trombone, and optional vibes on the initial melody and solos for alto sax, trumpet, and tenor sax, as well as a full band tutti section. It is in the same tempo throughout and includes a key change for the final chorus.

Let's Be Frank is a new, grade 2 (medium easy) bossa for jazz band. Frank Sumares was a real force in the San Francisco Bay Area jazz scene for many years as an educator, adjudicator, mentor, and pianist. He also, literally, wrote the book on jazz piano chord voicings. This original bossa was written in his memory and is perfect for junior high and developing high school jazz bands.

Originally written by Grammy award winner Kevin Gilbert (Toy Matinee, Tuesday Night Music Club, and the solo records Thud, and Shaming of the True), Simpler Times was part of an unreleased collection of 1985 recordings by Kevin under the title Decent Exposure. During a period when Kevin was going by the name of Kai Gilbert he wrote, produced, and played all the instruments on three separate albums that have recently been formally released as part of the boxed set Call Me Kai.  Kevin was a music student of mine at Serra high School in San Mateo, CA (yes, the same high school attended by Tom Brady) and remained a dear friend until his untimely passing in 1996 at the young age of 29. The Kevin Gilbert Estate, under the name GPP, serves as manager for all of Kevin's intellectual property and they have granted me permission to create this arrangement for jazz band and pursue its publication. Unlike the original dance-oriented track, I've reimagined Simpler Times as a medium tempo, straight 8th rock ballad featuring alto sax.

Tell Me To My Face was a 1967 track by the Hollies that went nowhere in the charts and was pretty much forgotten until Dan Fogelberg reserrected it with a killer version on his 1978 collaboration with flutist Tim Weisberg entitledTwin Sons of Different Mothers. This arrangement for full jazz band is based on that version and will be a concert highlight for your medium/advanced band. It features solos for trumpet and guitar (al la Carlos Santana) but could be played by any instrument.
