LITTLE SUNFLOWER- for Big Band/Jazz Ensemble with Flugelhorn Feature. Written by Freddie Hubbard in 1966. Owing to its adaptability, Little Sunflower has been arranged as a Ballad, Latin, Rock and Swing tune. Here it is presented in a Latin/Rock setting featuring Flugelhorn (2nd Trumpet) along with a solo for Tenor Sax. The melody is introduced with a polychord treatment in the muted brass, answered by the solo Flugelhorn. It climaxes in a full band tutti and ends using the polychord device. Great extended feature for your soloing Flugelhorn player. 5-4-4-4 with opt. vibes. Lead Tpt. up to C6. Intermediate level.

In 1997, Jamaican singer Diana King released a cover of I Say a Little Prayer as the first single from her second album, Think Like a Girl. The song gained widespread popularity after being featured prominently in the hit comedy My Best Friend's Wedding. The Love to Infinity dance remix of King's cover further popularized the song on radio, and it is this infectious, high-energy version that serves as the basis for this arrangement.

Instrumentation includes 5 Saxes, 4 Trumpets, 4 Trombones, Piano, Keyboards (Strings), Guitar, Bass, Drums, and Percussion, providing a dynamic and versatile accompaniment for the vocalist. This arrangement, Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas Is one of the arrangements I did for the Glenn Miller “In the Christmas Mood†recordings. True to the “Miller Sound,†the sax section is configured like the original band and is voiced from the top (clarinet) down in close position with the 2nd tenor doubling the clarinet melody an octave below. Alto 1 plays lead clarinet. Alto 2 plays the 1st Alto part Tenor 1 stays on tenor Tenor 2 stays on tenor doubling the clarinet melody exactly down an octave Baritone plays the 2nd Alto part The original recording featured a female vocal but it can be replaced by any solo instrument. Bb, Eb, & bass clef solo parts are included.
