Written as a tone poem honoring the victims of the atomic bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki, the piece also has moments for piano, 1st alto, and guitar. The piece starts softly, with piano and first alto playing in duet as the rest of the band slowly enters. As the trombone states the theme and then improvises, the piece crescendos into a massive, Kenton-esque release before winding back down towards an unresolved, tense, final chord, reminding listeners that the threat of war still looms over humanity.
