My arrangement of the Stevie Wonders performance on Innervisions to try and get as close to the original as possible, using the instruments for my school band. It does sound different using saxophones but have included parts for Brass Sextet. It is transcribed with Rhythm section parts for those that find it difficult to read chords or improvise/comp. In the arrangement, I have added the parts for the Vocal Lead to be played by various instrumentalists you might want to feature such as Alto Sax Lead with Tenor Sax backings, Tenor Lead and Tenor Sax Backings, Clarinet Lead. There is the opportunity to add multiple percussionists in addition to the drumkit. It was a fun song to arrange and the band really love playing this song with the Latin Vibe. A close acquaintance of mine had immigrated to New York from there, and her descriptions of her home were always compelling. My affection for West-African culture and acknowledgement of Africa's seminal role in the roots of jazz lead me to create this piece out of respect for my friend and Africa's culture and history. The main theme came from a seed of melody I heard one night listening to master pianist Randy Weston.

Arranged in the style of the piece's original composer, Jorge Ben Jor, this medium-advanced level rendition of Mas Que Nada features different soli combinations of tenor sax and trombone to capture the vocal qualities of the melody before the whole ensemble chimes in. The piece uses LATIN SAMBA and SWING interchangeably to add rhythmic variety (look for system text call-outs for SAMBA and SWING). In addition to the sectional features previously described, this chart features solos for trumpet, alto sax, and drums. Auxiliary percussion usage, such as African/Latin drums and/or shakers, is encouraged. CONDUCTORS NOTE: The trombone pitch bends in measures 16 and 24 are supposed to be DOWN 1/2 STEP, not UP. There is apparently an error in Noteflight that does not display this correctly. I have not had luck figuring the issue out.
