This arrangement for vocalist and big band is written in the key of Bb major and follows a similar format to the version recorded by Robbie Williams on his Swing When You're Winning album.  All brass parts are written mostly in a comfortable range although Eb6 (written) is required from the lead trumpet and the Db an octave lower for lead trombone. This is in the ensemble shout section and the brass parts could be played 8vab by younger ensembles. Very easy chart for middle schools on up. Based on 12 bar blues it runs at about 140 and has simple themes that are done with unison sections. It’ funky 2 beat and make you want to clap your hands on 2 & 4. Fun to play, younger players can do it and learn. It usually works to have the horn players that are not playing in the first part of the chat clap their hands over their head on 2 and 4. This will get the people into it. This is a simple funky 2 beat and should be kept that way. Piano has dissonant afterbeats--should be soft.

If you want a Maynard or Buddy chart, look elsewhere. This series of charts uses nothing more complicated than eighth notes, are not frantic or screamers, extreme ranges and are hemi-demi-semi-quaver free. They depend on intonation and the players being not intimidated by what he is asked to play. There is no contest to see how high you can go before you need oxygen , how many notes you can play in 9 seconds or before your bell overheats , or how long it takes the audience to cover their ears
Relaxed and confident players always play more in tune. Good harmonies, lines and realistic rhythm patterns will produce a good result that will swing and be enjoyed by player and listener alike.

This driving, Latin-flavored arrangement of the traditional carol Adeste Fideles (a.k.a. O Come All Ye Faithful) sounds great with bands of all levels, from professional big bands to high school jazz bands.  After an introduction that repeats throughout the piece, the melody is presented with a soli in the 1st trumpet and 1st alto sax.  The syncopated rhythms are repeated throughout, which makes it easier for school bands.  There are plenty of opportunities for improvised solos over a 2-chord montuno that allows younger students to build confidence using a Bb blues scale (concert key).  The rhythm section is also featured throughout and your drummer will love it (after all, it was arranged by a drummer!).  Players and audiences alike will love this piece.  Ranges are very reasonable with the 1st trumpet playing a written Bb above staff only twice, and the 1st trombone range going over the written F above the staff only once to Gb.

Crazy title? It's from the movie of the same name and is a tongue-in-cheek swing chart adapted from a much more difficult chart by Gordon Goodwin for the Big Phat Band. Arranged for the younger player, there are ensemble and some section solis but no improvised solos. A little challenging, but this will be a fun chart for any performance and will be a hit with both the band and audience. (3:35).
