Jazz Ensemble Jazz Ensemble - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.867861 Composed by Traditional. Arranged by Ric Flauding. Christian,Jazz,World. Score and parts. 36 pages. Denise Lea Flauding #2890599. Published by Denise Lea Flauding (A0.867861). World-Jazz style. Version for Jazz Big Band. In the style of Yellowjackets. As recorded by Ric Flauding. REVIEWS: I wanted to re-post info on Ric Flauding's arrangement of 'All Creatures of Our God and King!' Very unique with some surprising twists and turns...starts out with just quiet strings and piano but after a verse the percussion appear with 7/8 time signature along with Ed Maina's great soprano sax. Then a final key change back to 4/4 that builds to a dramatic climax. I played piano, Eric Darken-Percussion, Dave Owens-drums, Gordon Rustvold - bass. - David Arivett: Christian Jazz Artists. Very nice, Ric! Love the way you included both new AND old elements of the hymn. Great job! - Fletch Wiley.flaudingmusic.com

Jazz Ensemble Jazz Ensemble - Level 2 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1273503 Composed by Tchaikovsky, Peter. Arranged by Thingvall, Jon. Film/TV,Jazz. Score and Parts. 88 pages. Jon Thingvall #865640. Published by Jon Thingvall (A0.1273503). Briar Rose was the name of an early version of Sleeping Beauty.  Here, Tchaikovsky’s famous Sleeping Beauty Waltz is perked up a little, and re-imagined for a standard junior high/early high school, jazz big band (5,4,4), and played in 4/4 time.Difficulty:  junior high to early high school band.Designed to help students learn jazz.Key:  F (original ballet key is B-flat)Highest lead trumpet note: concert E (last note), in the treble clef. There are no solos.  Exposed parts have at least two players. The rhythms swing, but are kept predictable, without too much variety.Rhythm section play-along here:  https://youtu.be/rhlifLTzHC8Additional Parts Included:                Score, transposed                Score, concert pitch                Piano/Guitar showing Bass in L.H.                Piano/Guitar only, no Bass                Piano with jazz ideas/options written out                Drum set notation                Drum set kicksheetMeasure 71 (at approx. 1:51) could serve as an Optional Ending, and the director will be able to edit the measure as desired—beef up the “& of two” if desired, and/or add horns on beat 4, etc.  If done in class, as my teachers occasionally did, it can show the students the process of arranging, and might encourage some in that direction. As a classical-turned-jazz pianist, my best memories are of those who helped me bridge the gap from verbatim part-playing to the concepts of learning jazz harmonies and its own unique form of counterpoint.  Writers' suggestions--like Sammy Nestico's, who occasionally specified voicings--were invaluable.  So, for classically-trained pianists who are interested in jazz, I’ve included a couple versions of the piano part—a fairly standard “lead sheet”, but also one with ideas for voicings, especially quartal, which the classical artist might not have considered.  Further study on YouTube and other Internet sites will help them hear and visualize the difference between jazz and classical. The Bass part gives the student the option of playing the changes, or the written notes.I’ve also included two kinds of drum parts—one with notation for those just starting out, and another “kick sheet” for those with more experience.Manuscript made with Finale v26Sounds from Finale and Garritan “JABB3” (Jazz And Big Band)MP3 courtesy of OnlineAudioConverter.com.

Jazz Ensemble Jazz Ensemble - Level 5 - Digital Download SKU: A0.774418 Composed by Brad Esbensen, Bernadette M. Debattista. Arranged by Brad Esbensen. Jazz,Multicultural,World. Score and parts. 132 pages. Brad Esbensen Music Services #6092699. Published by Brad Esbensen Music Services (A0.774418). This work was originally composed for choir by Bernadette Debattista and was first performed at the Dawn Service, commemorating the centenary of the Gallipoli landings, in ANZAC Cove on 25 April 2015 by a combined choir from St Joseph’s College, Gregory Terrace and All Hallows’ School. This extended work sees the original theme recomposed for big band and choir. It may be performed in its entirety or the third movement may be omitted (or presented as spoken word only) if a choir is not available. The sax section requires the following doubles: Clarinet for Alto Saxes 1 and 2, and Tenor Sax 2; Flute for Tenor Sax 1; Bassoon for Bari Sax (although a Bari Sax part with no doubles has been included). There is also an optional part for Eb Sarrusophone! Trumpets require Flugelhorns and Harmon mutes. The recording features excerpts from each of the four movements and a brief description of each follows.1. Distant Shores With its jaunty, march-like feel, one can only imagine what it must have been like as these young men and women travelled to far off places, fired with the thrill of adventure, blind to the trauma and terrors of war. 2.Your Sons Are Our Sons The title for this movement is a paraphrase of a line in a speech given by Mustafa Kemal Ataturk in which he speaks of the special bond between Australia and Turkey. This movement features solo space for Piano and Trumpet.3.Reflection This movement features a small vocal group, including some of the singers who were present at the 2015 performance in ANZAC Cove, and a reading of the poem that became the lyrics of the song. 4.Hymn The final movement presents the theme in close to its original form, although extensively re-harmonised. A solo trumpet for most of the movement.I hope you enjoy performing this work.www.bemus.com.au

Jazz Ensemble Jazz Ensemble - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.978842 Composed by James Van Heusen. Arranged by John La Barbera. Broadway,Contest,Festival,Jazz,Musical/Show,Rock,Standards. Score and parts. 51 pages. Deaver Enterprises ASCAP #584508. Published by Deaver Enterprises ASCAP (A0.978842). Somewhere Along The Way Producer John Hammond specifically asked me for this arrangement because he believed, and rightfully so, that Bill’s appeal to the general public would be American popular song ballad features highlighting his phenomenal dynamic range. I’m sure he had Nat “King” Cole’s hit in mind and the chart pretty much wrote itself. This is the original arrangement from the original score with all of the flute parts included which were cut, for whatever reason, from the final mix. Bucket muted trumpets can be substituted for Flugels and I’ve added a hard ending instead of a board fade for performance purposes. The original recording version can be replicated... just tacit the flutes where necessary or if you’re ambitious, transpose the flutes for saxes and/or clarinets.

There's a time and a place for these songs, so I don't condemn the song itself, but it's certainly not a piece of art and is, rather, a product made by a music industry capable of using writers, designers, and producers to manufacture something they think will sell, rather than to create something beautiful or honest about what life is really like. Intsead, they sell the idea that life can be a party if one has enough money or enough 24k Magic. Jazz Ensemble Jazz Ensemble - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1308790 Composed by Charles Tenet. Arranged by Tobi Crawford. Jazz. Set of parts. 10 pages. Tobi Crawford #898036. Published by Tobi Crawford (A0.1308790). *THIS ACCOMPANIES THE VOCAL ARRANGEMENT* This arrangement came to me over a number of weeks in a very organic way that began with the ostinato piano figure that prevails throughout the piece. I began playing it unattached to any tune and I just liked the way the line descended in the left hand and how I had to find voicings in the right hand that made harmonic sense – like a puzzle. As I was playing around with this puzzle, thoughts of my father were swirling around in my head – I was at the end of a 4 year period of separation from my parents owing to the fact that I’m a Canadian expat living in the US and the borders were closed for a long time because of Covid, and then I had work visa issues and my parents were getting older before my eyes. They were also losing friends to cancer and other ailments and my dad, in particular, had experienced the loss of many close family members and friends during our separation and it was taking a toll. One day I sat down and played the now familiar-to-me ostinato but randomly I started to sing “Beyond the Sea” over it and it fit perfectly. I thought it a happy coincidence. As the days went on I committed to putting my ostinato with Beyond the Sea and the lyrics started to seep into my brain. I have, of course, heard these lyrics many times before, (who hasn’t seen Finding Nemo?) but the lyrics didn’t mean what I thought they meant… They’re NOT about the ocean, they are about my dad!!! Well, kind of… I realized, through careful reflection and by slowing the words down, that the lyrics are talking about a person in heaven who is patiently waiting for their partner to join them. Somewhere beyond the seaShe’s there watching for me…It’s far beyond the starsIt’s near beyond the moon And the lyrics end with them meeting, “We’ll meet beyond the shore, we’ll kiss just like before,” and the song ends with: “and never again I’ll go sailing.” It’s like the big bang went off in my head about why all these thoughts of my dad, and his friends, and this arrangement, and what it all meant suddenly just MADE SENSE and I was able to start formulating a plan. Performance Suggestions: The improvisation solo in the middle should be free of any traditional “scat syllables” and should be more of a lament. Listen to singers like Aubrey Johnson improvise on ballads for inspiration. An idea for that improv section might be to have a male singer start the improv, then a female singer joins (as if together in heaven) then they sing letter F together (warning: will cause tears…). All solo sections do not have to be sung as written – soloists can take liberties with the melody as the spirit moves.

Jazz Ensemble Jazz Ensemble - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1349426 By Michael Drake. By Michael Drake. Arranged by Kevin Carberry. Contemporary,Film/TV,Jazz,Latin. 139 pages. Michael Gene Drake #934179. Published by Michael Gene Drake (A0.1349426). Here is the sheet music from my song “A Song To Sing” which is from my CD “No Tan Lines”. This version was re-purposed from a big band version of mine for a Trumpet solo with 13 trumpets. The 4 Trumpets, 4 Trombones and 5 Saxes were re-voiced into 13 Trumpets with the original rhythm section. The lyrics from the original CD are: Life is a melody that plays on and on,Love is a story that’s played by the strings of my heart. There are so many different turns and keys,And so the thread of living keeps weaving its work, And there’s always a song to sing,And there’s always a tear to shed,And there’s always a life to live…. Life is a string to hang the pictures of my soul,And if the wall remains then I will continue,To open up myself like a book to be read,Never ever fearful of what will be said. www.drakemusic.com  michaeldrakemusic@outlook.com.

Broadway,Contemporary,Film/TV,Jazz,Musical/Show,Singer/Songwriter. 89 pages. Michael Gene Drake #935321. Published by Michael Gene Drake (A0.1350509). Jamaica - from the CD SAZZUNK, is a Tropical composition featuring a vocalist but this arrangement has the melody written for Trumpet solo. Simple Tropical Rhythm accents for the horns in the background augment and compliment the flavor for the melody. The soring solos are transcribed so hang on to your hat as it ends with a wild and crazy line for everyone to play! Modulations of the melody push it into new levels of heat followed by a more blazing hot solo at the end!LYRICSI’ve gone away, far away, to find my love in Jamaica,The sky was red, like my love, She’s gone away to the island,I’ll look for her, in the wind,That’s where she left her love for me,And though it might take for ever,My love for her flows endlessly,Chasin’ all my dreams, as far as they may go,You’re the one I love and you’re the one I need.I’ve gone away far away, to find my love in Jamaica,She was to me loves breath of live,Without her I’m not whole,I was to her, I thought the same,She left me amidst the game,Is there no hope for a man, Who’s lost his love to the wind

Jazz Ensemble - Digital Download SKU: AX.00-PR-0002616 Score. Composed by Benny Carter. Instructional. Score. 32 pages. Alfred Music - Digital Sheet Music #00-PR-0002616. Published by Alfred Music - Digital Sheet Music (AX.00-PR-0002616). UPC: 038081331973.Symphony In Riffs is Benny Carter's most famous piece. Originally composed and arranged in the 1930's for 4 reeds and 5 brass, Benny re-scored this version for a larger band some 50 years later. Benny was known for his idiomatic saxophone writing and this chart is a great example of that. Just when you think that the soli chorus at D is as good as his saxophone writing can get, he modulates and tops it with the brilliant new section at I. This is a transitional piece between the pre-swing of the 1920s and the mid-1930s swing.

Not So Quiet Please is one of five transcription/Arrangements (Carioca, Hawaiian War Chant, Well Git IT, Oop Bop Sh' Bam) I did for the Buddy Rich Retrospective at the Kool Jazz festival in 1982. After transcribing the originals I updated & re-arranged them to Buddy's liking without obscuring the intent of the originals. This arrangement is a composite of two recordings Buddy did of Quiet with Tommy Dorsey. The solo trumpet (first time at M. 9) can be played with all four trumpets both times if you choose and certain sections can be altered to suit your performance. We agreed on adding the eight bar shout after the drum solo to make the ending a little less anticlimactic. If you prefer, you can jump to M. 85 after the drum solo like the original. The drummer can stay on the toms and bass drum for the entire piece or alternate with a regular ride/hi hat swing pattern.

Brad Esbensen Music Services #3674731. Published by Brad Esbensen Music Services (A0.774350). This arrangement for vocalist and big band is written in the key of Bb major and follows a similar format to the version recorded by Robbie Williams on his Swing When You're Winning album.  All brass parts are written mostly in a comfortable range although Eb6 (written) is required from the lead trumpet and the Db an octave lower for lead trombone. This is in the ensemble shout section and the brass parts could be played 8vab by younger ensembles. I hope you enjoy performing this chart and if you would like it transposed into another key, please e-mail me at brad@bemus.com.au. www.bemus.com.au.
