The first chorus features the baritone sax, bass trombone and bass, which are joined in the second chorus by the full trombone section. An optionally open solo section beginning at 2:09 provides opportunity for several players to stretch. A low trombone and sax background riff during the solo section builds to a full ensemble chorus at 2:36 based on the riff. Following is a swinging trumpet soli. The low voices return to lead the march to the end. NOTE: The audio sample was produced with Finale. Some techniques like falls are omitted when results are unsatisfactory. It's been designed to be played by large or small instrumental ensembles. It uses swing eighth note rhythms and incorporates most of the usual instruments of a concert band or orchestra, or jazz ensemble. Lyrics are not included, however it retains all six verses as it goes through key changes and a D.S. al Coda. Thus the lyrics from a hymn book could be used to sing all six verses. The first verse is a slow chorale style passage. Then it goes to fast tempo jazz style, much like a New Orleans style derge, or funeral march. The piece is 2:45 minutes in length, but could be shortened, by about 50 seconds, by playing straight through without taking the D.S. al Coda. It's fast and plays best if counted in two because we have (2) transitions to 6/8 (march) and back again to 4/4 (swing). By counting in TWO the transition is easier because the downbeats remain the same.There are ad lib solos for the Tenor I Sax, Trombone II, Alto II, Trumpet II and Guitar. At the end we have a rallentando leading to (2) fermatas, the 1st long and the 2nd longer. This is a chance to feature the drummer with solo fills. Separate the fermatas with RR tracks, please. Following the latter fermata and RR tracks, the last 4 bars are back up to tempo!
