This Advent/Christmas carol is written for unison or two-part voices with organ accompaniment and optional treble instrument. (Parts for C and B-Flat instruments are available from the composer at no charge:  herman@udel.edu.)  It  joins two 16th-century German carols, Maria Walks Amid the Thorn and Lo, How a Rose.  It can be sung by a unison choir of trebles (children or adults) and/or men; the optional second voice part is incorporated in the organ accompaniment.  The instrumental part is likewise optional, as it is included in the organ accompaniment.  The piece is not difficult for singers and makes a lovely addition to both Advent and Christmas events.

This new, well crafted musical combines original songs and familiar carols from around the world to tell the Christmas story. Through narration, drama and song, choristers share how Jesus came to be the Light of the Worldo over 2,000 years ago. The narration begins with the story of creation, turns to the prophetic words of Isaiah, and then recounts the events of JesusAE birth. Three of the carols give the option of singing the original language texts (French, German, Spanish); a pronunciation guide provided. Optional descants and accessible second parts enrich the experience and help develop part-singing skills. Many of the songs could be used separately for worship. Throughout the musical, a single burning candle symbolizes the light of Christ. This light is shared with the congregation at the close of the musical with an invitation to take the Light out into the world. Performance time: 30-40 minutes.

Sticks of peppermint candy are said to have been a favorite since the 1670s when a choir director in Germany asked a local candy maker to help him calm the restless children during Christmas Eve mass. This candy maker created sugar sticks flavored with peppermint to keep the children occupied!

This Traditional Austrian Carol is re-arranged for solo voice and piano by. Marcus Martin. The melody is a folk tune from the district of Salzburg and appeared for the first time in 1865 in a folksong collection by Vinzenz Maria Süß (1802–1868),  founder of the Salzburg Museum. There were originally 5 stanzas of German text, here reduced to 4 verses in English with 3 possible permutations of performance.
