This is a new tune to an old hymn that needs to be rediscovered.
It is taken from a book of mine of over 400 hymns that have been given new tunes – written by me - that reflect the sentiment of the words. The book is entitled Praise! and is available. This varied arrangement of the 15th cent. French processional uses randomly malleted handbells, handchimes, finger cymbals (or triangle), and chime tree to create a mystical, ethereal introduction. A simply flowing statement of the tune is presented, followed by a rhythmic, energetic, and urgent-feeling section in 7/8 meter, including the use of finger cymbals and wood block. The words Rejoice! Rejoice! Emmanuel is come to you, O Israel! are grandly and joyously illustrated, and the work concludes as ethereally as it began, but with softly singing bells.
