The ancient tune PASSION CHORALE which first appeared as a hymn in 1613 is presented here as a string duet arrangement (for 2 VIOLINS). The familiar lyrics we know as O Sacred Head, Now Wounded were added sometime around 1656. Though over 300 years old, this song continues to add inspiration and contemplation to worship services during the season of Lent and Easter.

The melody is played by the VIOLIN 1 throughout. An optional repeat is provided in case a longer musical selection is needed. All notes for both VIOLIN parts are playable in the first position making this arrangement an excellent choice for early-intermediate string players. The purchase price includes a 2-page combined score with both parts on each page plus separate 1-staff scores for each VIOLIN (1 page each).

Négysey's Gallery (2001) for two violins is based on computer paintings created by the violin virtuoso János Négysey. During a return visit to my Alma Mater, the University of California, San Diego I heard the sounds of a far-off violin and followed them, finding myself in front of the door of János Négysey, the violin professor at the university. We hadn't seen each other in over 20 years. While catching up on our lives since my graduation, János took out several stunning computer paintings he had recently completed. I immediately suggested that I do a new work for two violins based on his art. I asked to see more and soon when I left his office I had a collection of paintings from which to choose. A year later the piece was completed and he programmed it for a recital at the University. They were premiered on April 10, 2001 by János and Päivikki Nykter, also a virtuoso violinist. The images were projected on several screens across the width of the stage. Afterwards, János and I would meet on Skype to keep up to date and there was always a healthy amount of laughter. When he passed away suddenly in 2013 I was shocked and saddened. I still miss his insights, sense of humor and encyclopedic knowledge. The duration is approximately 33 minutes and there are 12 color paintings included with the score. Many thanks to Päivikki for giving me permission to include the paintings.

Here is a string duet arrangement (for 2 VIOLINS) of the really old hymn UNSER HERRSCHER by Joachim Neander (1680). The Easter lyrics titled He Is Risen were added by Cecil Frances Alexander over 100 years later.

Two unique verses are included interspersed with bright staccato interludes. VIOLIN 1 and VIOLIN 2 alternate leading with the melody throughout both verses. All notes for both VIOLIN parts are playable in the first position making this arrangement an excellent choice for early-intermediate string players. The purchase price includes a 3-page combined score with both parts on each page plus separate 1-staff scores for each VIOLIN (2 pages each).

Jingle Bells (originally One Horse Open Sleigh) is one of the best-known American songs in the world. Composed in 1850 by James Lord Pierpont (1822 – 1893) it has been modified and used by countless artists over the last 150 years.  This arrangement is for two unaccompanied violins, and is true to the original melody, with echos of sleigh bells throughout. The arrangement has four variations on the melody, with the first and second violin each having an opportunity to take the lead with the melody.
