Composed by David McKeown. Children,Contemporary,Standards. 5 pages. David McKeown #6357601. Published by David McKeown (A0.592327).

Scott the Scatterbrained Skeleton is a fun and original duet written by David McKeown for two Violins.

Scott the Scatterbrained Skeleton is one in a series of ten Halloween-themed duets each presenting a portrait of a different Halloween character. All ten can be bought together in one collection by searching for 10 Spooky Halloween Duets for Violin.

When you think about it, it’s obvious why Scott is scatterbrained, seeing as there’s nothing to stop his brain falling out. His friends also called him scatterlunged and scatterspleened. He’s a happy chap, not a deep thinker of course, but he always has a smile for everyone.

Scott the Scatterbrained Skeleton is suitable for players at an intermediate level and above. The main melody is staccato, with a more lyrical and sustained middle section. The key and range are as accessible as possible for both players. With a playing-time of just under four minutes, Scott the Scatterbrained Skeleton is a perfect fun addition to any performance program, formal or informal. Composed by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. Arranged by David McKeown. Classical,Concert,Instructional,Opera,Standards. 3 pages. David McKeown #3237419. Published by David McKeown (A0.587433).

Der Vogelfanger bin ich Ja, (The Birdcatcher’s Song) is an aria from the first act of Mozart’s comic opera, The Magic Flute. It has become one of Mozart’s best loved melodies and features the birdcatcher Papageno. In the first production the role was played by the producer and theatre owner. He was not a trained singer so Mozart deliberately wrote a simple melody of limited range. This version is arranged as a duet for two Violins

Musicians at an intermediate level and above will find this ideal for formal and informal performances, with both parts enjoying melodic interest. The duet format gives instrumentalists an opportunity to play music written for the voice. The overall performance time is around a minute and a half. The full-length youtube performance is the Clarinet version of this duet.

Teachers will enjoy using this arrangement as a fun way to help with detailed articulation and dynamics.

Silver Wedding, (Die Silberne Khasene in Yiddish), is a Jewish Folk tune, often performed by Klezmer musicians. This version is arranged as a duet for two Violins.

Jewish Wedding bands, prominent in early twentieth century New York, were well placed to take advantage of the phonograph recording revolution. Accordingly, we are fortunate to have a rich record of the musical style of the time. Silver Wedding first appeared in a 1915 recording by Abe Elenkrig’s Orchestra. Elenkrig was born in Ukraine, which may point to the origins of the tune. Silver Wedding is in a Bulgar style, a happy piece designed to escort the newly-weds from the ceremony to the feast.

Silver Wedding is simply arranged in a key and range best suited to the instruments. The melody is in three sections; overall the tune is played twice with a short introduction and coda and with constant variations in the accompaniment. Silver Wedding is suitable for players at an intermediate level and above. With a performance time of around three minutes, this version of Silver Wedding is perfect for weddings, celebrations and concert performances, both formal and informal. Hava Nagila is a Hebrew Folk tune, often performed by Klezmer musicians. This version is arranged as a duet for two Violins.

Hava Nagila was originally a Nigun melody thought to have originated in the Ukraine. In 1918 a professor and musicologist at the Hebrew University in Jerusalem, Abraham Zevi Idelsohn, set the tune to words adapted from Psalm 118. Hava Nagila was first performed at celebrations at the end of the Great War and quickly spread throughout the Jewish diaspora. In the fifties and sixties, performances by singers as diverse as Harry Belafonte and Bob Dylan popularised the song far beyond its original Jewish audience. Hava Nagila remains one of the best-known and loved Klezmer standards today, traditionally performed at Jewish celebrations.

Hava Nagila is simply arranged in a key and range best suited to the instruments. After a steady beginning, the melody gradually increases in tempo, with constant variations in the accompaniment. Hava Nagila is suitable for players at an intermediate level and above. With a performance time of around two and a half minutes, this version of Hava Nagila is perfect for celebrations, weddings and concert performances, both formal and informal. Composed by Yakow Jadow. Arranged by David McKeown. Jewish,Multicultural,Wedding,World. 4 pages. David McKeown #6080597. Published by David McKeown (A0.589603).

Bublitschki is a Ukrainian/Jewish Folk song, often performed by Klezmer musicians. This version is arranged as a duet for two Violins.

Bublitschki was written in 1922 by Yakov Jadow. The title means pretzels in Russian and was inspired by the pretzel sellers by the railway station in Odessa. Jadow observed that the street-vendors were poverty-stricken and wrote the song as a lament. Initially popular in the Soviet Union, a recording by the Barry Sisters in 1939 brought this song to an international audience.

Bublitschki is simply arranged in a key and range best suited to the instruments. The melody is in two sections and is played twice with a short coda and constant variations in the accompaniment. Bublitschki is suitable for players at an intermediate level and above. With a performance time of just over three minutes, this version of Bublitschki is perfect for concert performances, both formal and informal.
