Although I am today a cellist (and guitarist), my first instrument was violin, then recorder, and I started cello at the age of 9. I still play every now and then violin, in particular i find improvising on the violin easier then on any other instrument!

The dance was originally a flirtation one where couples danced in a manner to entice courtship, however it is more known as a dance of hysteria for when a victim was bitten by a spider (tarantula), it was believed that dancing furiously with tambourines would cure them.This Tarantella is in ternary form and in A minor and the most complicated note value is a quaver and the highest note is top E. I have kept both instrumental parts fairly equal throughout avoiding a number 1 and number 2  I have left the bowing to the performer and I have placed it at Intermediate level, but the youtube link has the whole score for you to assess the suitability.It is ideal as a showpiece, useful for concerts, recitals or simply something a little different to play. Mambo de Maya is an exciting original composition by David McKeown, arranged as a duet for two Violins.This duet is based on the fast, traditional Latin style of Mambo that emerged in Cuba in the 1930s. Later, when Mambo and its dance steps spread to Mexico and New York, hugely successful band leaders like Perez Prado and Tito Puente borrowed ideas from Big-Band Jazz and produced the bold and brassy sound we associate with Mambo today.If you play to an intermediate standard and upwards, then you and your audience will enjoy this piece. The steady Mambo bell rhythm is implied throughout, and following the precise articulation in the score will help convey the style. Melodies are clearly articulated and played with passion. The Chocolate Chalypso is a fun and original duet written by David McKeown for two Violins. Chocolate Chalypso is one in a series of ten Easter-themed duets each written in a different American dance style. In the late ‘50s just a handful of national TV shows in the US had a huge influence on the music and dance crazes of the time. Artists and dances came and went with dizzying speed. Chalypso was a short-lived craze in 1958 that combined the music of the new Rock’n’Roll with much-simplified steps borrowed from Cha Cha and Calypso; and no sooner had it caught on than it was itself supplanted by The Twist. Chocolate Chalypso is suitable for players at an intermediate level and above, with the accessible key and range balanced by some syncopated rhythms and accidentals. With a playing-time of around one and a half minutes, Chocolate Chalypso is a perfect upbeat addition to any performance program, formal or informal.
