THE DREAM OF OLWEN - FLUTE and GUITARFor Classical or Acoustic Guitar - sometimes it's erroneously listed here as Electric Guitar.Derek Hasted writes This fantastic piece was written as an integral part of the film While I Live, and such is the power and emotion in the music, it has achieved a recognition that has far outlasted the film.The flute part has a compass from Middle C to the G two-and-a-half octaves up and suits an intermediate player.The guitar part will suit an advanced intermediate player - much of the music is fingered for ease of playing.My arrangement captures all of the original, fiendishly difficult, piano composition, but uses the sweet tone of the guitar and flute to add quality, rather than quantity, to the notes, creating a soundscape that works effectively and makes a piece lasting almost 4 minutes. The ability of the flute to hold a long note makes the music come alive and blossom even more.The centre section has a simpler accompaniment than the original to avoid an overly fussy and unsatisfactory sound.
