The rather scary-looking Gb major chord at the end is enharmonically correct - it’s based on a flattened second to the final key of F. But guitarists will probably prefer to think of it as F# major, which is a familiar chord in guitar repertoire, and there’s no need for a barré for this one either!This music is set in the key of the original TV soundtrack. THE DREAM OF OLWEN - FLUTE and GUITARFor Classical or Acoustic Guitar - sometimes it's erroneously listed here as Electric Guitar.Derek Hasted writes This fantastic piece was written as an integral part of the film While I Live, and such is the power and emotion in the music, it has achieved a recognition that has far outlasted the film.The flute part has a compass from Middle C to the G two-and-a-half octaves up and suits an intermediate player.The guitar part will suit an advanced intermediate player - much of the music is fingered for ease of playing.My arrangement captures all of the original, fiendishly difficult, piano composition, but uses the sweet tone of the guitar and flute to add quality, rather than quantity, to the notes, creating a soundscape that works effectively and makes a piece lasting almost 4 minutes. The ability of the flute to hold a long note makes the music come alive and blossom even more.The centre section has a simpler accompaniment than the original to avoid an overly fussy and unsatisfactory sound. Elsewhere the accompaniment retains much of the original harmony and rhythm, but tailored to the gentle sounds of the flute and guitar.I hope you enjoy playing this piece!Dedicated to the memory of my maternal grandmother Olwen

And then there's a gentle fade away to a quiet finish.It's an easy rhythmic crowd-pleaser that any audience will like and it’s a real toe-tapper.The guitar has a simple syncopated rhythm that was inspired by the electric bass line of the original and reworked to provide a rhythm 'chords and bass' part that is straightforward and reliable to play.The soundfile alongside this download at Sheet Music Press is a mix of real guitar and synthesised flute. In a real performance the flute part will benefit from rubato and being relaxed with the beat.I hope you enjoy this piece!
