The lovely chord sequences and the need for controlled articulation make this a delightful piece for any intermediate duo.

I have added a few dynamics (but feel free to change them if you wish), and some suggested fingerings for the guitar part.

Iâ€™ve pitched the music (pardon the pun) in the original piano key - G minor - but Iâ€™ve set the guitar part Capo 3, which makes gives the guitarist some really comfortable and familiar shapes based around E minor, and makes the bass notes particularly rounded and satisfying.

Derek Hasted writes This charming piece has become incredibly well-known in the UK as the theme tune to the TV series of the same name - one of the UKâ€™s longest running comedies.

The music elegantly captures the calm of country life and the simplicity of times gone by, and makes for a refreshing and accessible concert item whether you know the original music or not.

The guitar part is all in first position with just a few straightforward barrÃ© chords that are comfortable and easy to reach. The rather scary-looking Gb major chord at the end is enharmonically correct - itâ€™s based on a flattened second to the final key of F. But guitarists will probably prefer to think of it as F# major, which is a familiar chord in guitar repertoire, and thereâ€™s no need for a barrÃ© for this one either!

This music is set in the key of the original TV soundtrack.

Derek Hasted writes This charming piece, by Ennio Morricone, has found fame in the films Maddalena and Le Professionnel, and on television in An Englishman's Castle and The Life and Times of David Lloyd George. In the UK it reached number 2 in the Singles Chart.

I have also made arrangements for 2 and 3 guitars (or large ensemble), - visit my website (below) to find it easily.

My arrangement uses the guitar's sixth string tuned down to D so that the bass line can drop down at the point the original builds in orchestration. The arpeggios are not as complex as the original version, but the result fits the guitar so much better and sounds both unforced and natural.

The flute part is kept low to avoid the shrillness that comes in the upper registers.

Derek Hasted writes This rather poignant little piece introduced the original TV series of â€œOpen All Hoursâ€ starring Ronnie Barker and David Jason - a program which has since re-appeared to tell the same tale a generation further on.

Set here for early intermediate Flute and Guitar Duet, this is an easy-to-play piece which makes for a relaxing interlude in a School or Adult concert and the simple yet haunting melody connects instantly with an audience.

There are some fingerings on the guitar part that are worth noting as the use of guide fingers here can make the chord transitions very much easier.

Derek Hasted writes Rightly described as an astonishingly beautiful piece, this music from the film Local Hero actually features twice on the soundtrack album, in different keys with different solo instruments.

My arrangement for flute and classical guitar exploits the sustain of the flute and the soft tones of Â nylon strings and works well at a slightly more modest pace compared to the original. Iâ€™ve taken the theme from the closing soundtrack version, where the melody is clear and powerful. My arrangement includes one or two little bits of Mark Knopflerâ€™s quasi-improvised variations on the tune.Â

There are no dynamics, but the changing texture of the accompaniment creates the illusion of dynamic changes and you are welcome to add phrasing and dynamics to make the performance â€œyoursâ€.

The guitar part is a little challenging at speed but this will suit confident intermediate players.

This enjoyable concert item has a wonderfully captivating melody that the audience will be humming all the way home...

There is an amount of fingering and slurring in the guitar part which may help to get the smoothest performance, and the flute part will also benefit from slurring where possible.

There are plenty of places where the music needs to breathe, so please donâ€™t rush.

DEVIL'S GALOP (Dick Barton Theme Tune) - FLUTE and GUITAR

Derek Hasted writes This evocative tune was the theme music to Dick Barton Special Agent, a radio drama on the BBC many decades ago.

The music is full of tension, with rising chromatic chords and long chromatic scale passages creating a constant restless feel.

The guitar accompaniment is fingered, as thereâ€™s really only one place on the guitar to play the chords. For the tune, add slurs wherever these improve the flow of the music.

Here and there, I have deliberately â€œrespelledâ€ some of the accidentals in a way that hopefully improves overall readability, and sometimes the two parts have two representations of the same note at the same time.

A version of this was played by the Hampshire Guitar Orchestra who also managed to find time to mop their brows in the occasional pauses in the action. I also have a guitar duet arrangement on sale where the tune and accompaniment roles switch back and forth - find it using my website below.

Derek Hasted writes A haunting melody (pardon the pun!) is interspersed with lush & uplifting phrases and exotic chromatic passages. Itâ€™s an unusual and delightful piece that makes a refreshing and unexpected concert item.

In the Flute part, the very highest passages are also included an octave lower in an ossia part to make the piece accessible to those with a little less proficiency.

In the Guitar part, Iâ€™ve fingered some of the more complex chord shapes, mainly as an aide-memoire, because the key signature and the accidentals combine to make some of the chords hard to read - for example there are F major and F# minor arpeggios looking (at first sight) identical on the page. Some of the more complex chromatic movement is actually gloriously straightforward because of the way Iâ€™ve arranged the music to use shapes that slide down the neck. Here and there Iâ€™ve chosen enharmonic equivalents to make the music easier on the eye.

Derek Hasted writes My arrangement of this joyously upbeat Christmas piece follows the key of the original, but arranged for flute and classical (or acoustic) guitar.

The standard is just on the easy side of intermediate.

The Guitar is tuned down to 6=D and has the 3:3:2 rhythm that gives this piece its real sense of fun. Although the music reaches the fifth position in places, it’s generally in first and second position to give access to a deeper bass-line.

A competent flautist can make the final verse more dramatic by taking the music up an octave. This takes the highest note up to top F# which some intermediate players find a little unreliable.

Derek Hasted writes This song burst back into my consciousness when it was played as a Viennese Waltz in the BBC TV program â€œStrictly Come Dancingâ€.

The ponderous, downbeat, original became light, inspiring, uplifting and very beautiful.

Hereâ€™s the version that was on TV - the same key as the original but slightly shorter.

The flute takes the tune, the guitar (with the bottom string tuned to D) takes the accompaniment.

Itâ€™s ideal for an inexperienced duo - the tune, believe it or not, only uses 5 different notes!

The use of 6=D tuning for the guitar dramatically reduces the number of barrÃ© chords and makes the guitar part much easier on the left hand.
