For the tune, add slurs wherever these improve the flow of the music.Here and there, I have deliberately “respelled� some of the accidentals in a way that hopefully improves overall readability, and sometimes the two parts have two representations of the same note at the same time.A version of this was played by the Hampshire Guitar Orchestra who also managed to find time to mop their brows in the occasional pauses in the action. The way I did this was taking advantage of the harmonic qualities of the guitar, focusing on adding presence and body, without affecting its role as accompaniment.

I’ve made a significant change to the key here, but that allows the guitar to produce a haunting first verse where a stopped B and an open B ring through each other to generate a smoothness of accompaniment that is sublime and mimics the reverberant piano of the original.The arpeggio patterns here match closely those of the original piano too, giving verses 1 and 2 quite different texture. Sadly there is no orchestra and massed choir to build this version in the way that the original does, but the dynamics on the score tie in with the original song.The guitar part is here in “score and tab� and in “score alone� - there is no difference in the music, but the tab may help notation readers see how the opening section sits on the neck of the guitar.I hope you enjoy playing this piece!

I’ve taken the theme from the closing soundtrack version, where the melody is clear and powerful. Some of the more complex chromatic movement is actually gloriously straightforward because of the way I’ve arranged the music to use shapes that slide down the neck. At the time of publishing this arrangement, there seems to be only a single piano version of the original piece for sale which comprises just a snippet of the original.I have other arrangements of Basque - one for guitar and oboe (in a different key to suit the instrument better), one for two guitars, and a third version for three guitars (or large ensemble) that includes a countermelody based on the orchestral accompaniment to Galway's flute.All the versions are particularly straightforward and accessible, and I hope will bring this gorgeous melody to the ears of even more people.I hope you enjoy playing this piece!

And then there's a gentle fade away to a quiet finish.It's an easy rhythmic crowd-pleaser that any audience will like and it’s a real toe-tapper.The guitar has a simple syncopated rhythm that was inspired by the electric bass line of the original and reworked to provide a rhythm 'chords and bass' part that is straightforward and reliable to play.The soundfile alongside this download at Sheet Music Press is a mix of real guitar and synthesised flute. This arrangement is set in the same keys as the original, and modulates from C to G (for the instrumental) and then to D.The accompaniment fits nicely on guitar, and it’s ideal for an intermediate duo. The guitar seldom comes out of first position and uses familiar chord shapes. The flute part has a top G, but it can easily be replaced by another top E if the G is not rock solid. By the same token, some of the repeated notes can be replaced by a sustained note if you feel that makes for a more relaxed articulation.This is one of those pieces that a concert audience will be humming all the way home...I hope you enjoy playing this piece!
