From A Distance was an international success for recording artist Bette Midler in 1990. The Gulf War and world events at that time gave the song a very personal meaning for the masses. (Oddly enough, the inspiration for the song's composer, Julie Gold, was her attendance at an anti-nuclear rally in NYC.) This song is a song of hope and peace that effectively uses a very simple but beautiful melody. At the very end of this arrangement, the melodic motif repeats itself 3 times like an echo - while decrescendo-ing and fading away to a whisper. This is to remind us that sometimes, for a better perspective, we all need to step back and look at things from a distance.
